So the big reveal is tomorrow. They have done a pretty good job keeping it under wraps so far, only seen some speculative rumors about phone controls and the new controller so far.

i'm surprised they are unveiling today. From everything I had read late last year they were planning to let Microsoft announce the new x-box before them. I don't follow x-box news, so if that happened then this is moot, but i don't think it has.

anyway, i know they want to release for the holidays but it's unfortunate that GTA5 was delayed. Having what will probably be your final PS3 game (and one of the largest sellers ever) go up against your new hardware is a dangerous move. If the PS4 is backwards compatible that might not make it such a big deal. but that's $699 + $70, i think i'll stick to the game only.

Consoles and their 512 Megs of RAM (and that is system and video COMBINED) have limited development long enough.

I use my ps3 exclusively for blu-rays at this point. With all the system updates required each time I turn it on, I will not be getting a ps4. Even if it is AMAZING, the ps3 made me lose confidence.

They probably just say that because the PS3 is hard to develop for and nobody is able to get 100% out of it.

But gaming has passed the full potential of the current consoles long ago, and they are holding back graphics even in PC gaming because nobody wants to make a game that won't run on consoles.

The Skyrim DLC is just now coming out for PS3 because it just barely has enough ram to run the base game, and even that they had problems with.

Wasn't the PS3 supposed to last 12 years? Well, people bought into that when they were originally saying it. I got a chuckle out of it.

I'd be interested in seeing whether they go the require persistent internet to access a validation server route to prevent used game sales and to lock out games when they want people to upgrade.

Sony (and apparently everyone else) seems to think Average Joe has an awesome internet connection... the idea of streaming live games, background downloading etc and all that is great... but easily my biggest complaint about current multiplayer games is lag... maybe they plan to fix that with better network code, but i don't have high hopes about it.

How is this maximum hype? The PS4 conference essentially fizzled (if even that). D3 coming to the console as one of their biggest topics? Its a year-old PC port that has been abandoned by the majority of its users and panned as a huge disappointment. The director of the game was even forced to step down.

Maximum hype would have been to announce that the PS3/PS4 D3 releases would coincide with new content.

i was gonna post something about how that whole sony press conference basically was a PC sales pitch.....they de-emphasized the console (not showing it) so much that it was basically just an ad for pc gaming.

Nah, official specs show a Blu-ray drive. They aren't going to give their retail partners the finger just yet. Although, I could see a cheaper SKU coming without an optical drive.

With all the talk of remote play/streaming and calling it a "game server", I wonder if they'll eventually release tiny remote play clients similar to how DirecTV Genie + RVUs work so you can have one PS4 for multiple TVs without having to move it around. Even better if the PS3 could work as one.

I'm ecstatic that ps4 is x86. Really going to drive away all but first party exclusives and releases that come out faster and look GOOD on pc. smart move since in order to satisfy a customer with a diminished used market, cutting your margins sooner in the sales cycle in hopes of greater volume is the only way to go and should be offset by basically eating all the 2nd hand sales revenue.
