Neon genesis evangelion.

If you want a streaming anime app you can try crunchyroll. They have a pretty extensive library

I think there was one some years ago that was downright great up till the last 2 episodes.
FUCK

it starts out with an albino kid boarding a bus after eating something at some kind of ritual that turns him into a human bomb. He blows the bus up and a survivor turns into this super powered alien looking thing and is taken aboard a mail-blimp or something...

think Nausica meets Evangelion

Ghost in the Shell (you'll LOVE this if you're into AI, there's one amazing episode about the nature of consciousness)

Ghost in the shell is awesome, but not the remake. Seriously just download akira or find one of those sketchy only streams for japanese movies. Its really the only one that you have to watch. NGE is amazing until it ends and then you're like 'this is starting to get annoying'.

I was a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist and Mushi-Shi which are available on stream. Ghost in the Shell was great, but they've taken off the series and the movies from the stream.

And check Crackle they've got a larger selection, don't know if it's any better though. They do have Metropolis, which I enjoyed.

I remember renting the Ghost in the Shell VHS when I was about 12 or 13. I think I was too young to "get it" then. I'll check it out again. That was actually right after I rented Akira. I had asked one of the video store guys about anime and he handed me a copy of Akira. After I watched it I thought WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING but then eventually realized that Akira is one of a kind and by no means an accurate representation of typical anime. Since then really the only anime I have enjoyed are: Cowboy bebop, Ninja Scroll, Naruto (in the beginning), Samurai Champloo, Fist of the North Star, Macross Plus, and most of the Studio Ghibli works... maybe a few others I can't remember. (Animatrix too if that counts)

The kind of stuff I don't really like would be like FLCL. I realize some of you might hate me for that but I'm sorry IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE. Also my ex gf likes it and she's a dumb whore so..

The first series of Full Metal Alchemist is on there. I liked it a lot more than the than the remade series that follows the manga even though it falls apart near the end. There are some truly dark episodes. Don't watch much anime anymore but the new rebuild of Evangelion movies look stunning on Blu Ray. I grew bored of the Ghost in the Shell TV series after a while.

Always a big fan of Outlaw Star, which was also Toonami.

I find it hard to hate on anything with bigass robots, so Gundam was always cool with me.

ok i just watched the last few episodes of Xam'd I missed a while back and it's amazing

"Big O" was crazy ambiguous out of sheer spite, but this was equally ambiguous and much more thought provoking and engrossing.

All Anime, except for Naruto (which has great exposition in the Manga), it seems leaves me scratching my head.

This xam'd shit has my mind uncomfortably pregnant with a painfully unbirthable "WHAT THE FUCK"

Macross Frontier turns hippy near the end (as anime often does)

it was OK. I liked Macross Plus more

LOL. I have to admit that I actually know where the image in the original post came from - Macross Frontier. Not my favorite of the Macross series (waaaaaaaaaaaay too much pop music, and I can't stand the little girl on the right), but I am nonetheless a diehard fan. I would HIGHLY recommend the Macross Plus OVA if you can still find it. I remember seeing the first 2 episodes of it at NCSU way back in 1994.
