Venue- The Oaks at Salem- April Maness
Beyond Disappointed. The location is beautiful, it can be outside/inside, and it is off the beaten path. I liked that a lot of things were included with the Oaks of Salem (tables, chairs, tent, grounds, golf cart use). This was not our first choice, but was chosen due to handicap accessibility. I would caution couples about selecting this venue for their wedding/event due to recent changes. 2 weeks before our event the owner was forced by the city of Apex to install speakers that self-limit the decibel level. However at our event, the DJ was continuously forced by the on-duty cop to turn the music down. This was upsetting because we were guaranteed prior to the event that the new speakers prevent the music from exceeding the mandated decibel level. The result was very quiet music and several threats to “shut the party down” from the cop. We hired a DJ with 20+ years of experience and the volume requests were beginning to visibly irritate him. We arranged for Karaoke at the reception- which everyone LOVED! The owner also decided to shut that down. This was disappointing because we spoke with the owner multiple times regarding Karaoke and received prior approval at our walk-through a week earlier. She did not make us aware of hesitations regarding Karaoke at that time. We were disappointed regarding access to the home. Unbeknownst to us, the fire Marshall ruled the home a fire code violation because too many guests were being allowed upstairs (we only had 110 guests total and the owner advertises a 250 guest capacity). Rather than discussing this concern with us prior to the event, the owner allowed everything to continue as planned and discuss with our event coordinator at 2pm day of that no one would be allowed up stairs. Our contract clearly states that we have access to this main level and our coordinator convinced the owner to allow half the guests upstairs and half downstairs. During the Cocktail hour, the owner came upstairs and sternly requested that all guests go downstairs and they were not allowed on that level. This was disappointing because we had paid for cocktails, snacks, and music upstairs. Several guests commented afterwards on the owner’s demeanor. We are not a quiet bunch, I will admit. But, no one was drunk, no one was angry, and a majority of people were sitting/talking. Several guests described the affair as “low key” and “quiet”. The owner was aware of and approved all wedding plans including number of guests, catering, and karaoke. At time of approval this was not a problem. I was very disappointed with the lack of communication regarding new policies, lack of problem solving due to new policies, and the owners reaction/demeanor during the entire event. Prior to these recent changes I heard nothing but good reviews. I would not recommend using this venue and I regret choosing The Oaks at Salem to host our event. I wish 1) we were given an opportunity to seek other venues without penalty 2) the Owner worked with us to problem solve 3) there was more communication when the owner received new information that would effect the outcome of our event. Instead we wasted a lot of money, our event was disorganized, and there was noticeable turmoil between The Oak and our vendors. Luckily- we are happy. All I can say- glad it’s over and good luck if you choose to work with the Oaks at Salem. If you are looking for a quiet, sit-down affair- it’s your place! *Note- We did address these concerns with the vendor directly as well. We were hoping to report how the Oaks responded to these concerns. No one from the Oaks of Salem as contacted us regarding these changes or concerns."

Whats the validity of these claims. The owners of The Oaks at Salem needs to respond to these claims.

I don't think the original review can be called libel if it was an honest review of the place. the shit about dnl...... well Krallum getting sued would just make this all the more hilarious

^^ isn't this a student owned site? no way they would stand up to even the weakest letter from an attorney, they would sell you out in no time.

Even mrfrog has had a moment of pleading to the mods because it looked like a recent thread might devolve into a lawsuit.
