And of course, since I’m fat, she went on a 20 minute explanation about why I should lose weight, the health risks, the benefits of losing weight, how easy it can be, how I should change my diet (which she knows nothing about, mind you), and even referred me to a dietician. To be honest, I was too shocked, embarrassed, and taken aback (and sick/exhausted) to even argue with her." |

Thin privilege is hearing her follow up with, “I don’t want to be fat because being fat is bad.”
Thin privilege is that sinking, ill feeling when you realize this child you love has already learned to discriminate.
Thin privilege is her not even realizing just how much she hurt me - her fat aunt." |

In stores & online, ends today (2/27)!” So I clicked on the Women’s Plus link (provided in the email), and it took me to a page where exactly one pair of jeans (and not the Rockstar brand) was $19. Almost every other pair was well above that price point. " |

This happened to me a year ago.
Thin privilege is being rejected from a college because you had a fatphobic interviewer. I applied to my top college and was interviewed by a very thin and white female alumnus. Unlike my other interviewers, she made no small talk with me and asked me a couple of interview related questions before concern trolling me about my body and outright shaming me. She hinted that I might not be able to handle fattening dorm food and that I “might get even more unhealthy”. When I got that rejection letter in that mail, I just new it was because of my fatphobic interviewer. I’m attending my second choice school, but this memory still stings and is very triggering when I think about it. I refuse to attend any events related to this school because they bring about triggering memories.
Thin privilege is having a college interviewer accurately see you as the person you are, rather than your body size." | ] 3/5/2013 1:15:48 PM

this is a complete and total lie...
I was fat and cheated my way to losing weight with prescription pills...
that was 5 years ago and i haven't really gained any weight back...and my heart rate/blood pressure/most everything else is worlds better than that of the average person...
i guess this privilege is that i eat crap food and don't exercise...not that i do manual labor and eat crap food in moderation...

Asked by thelegendofd
Because being fat isn’t an imperfection.
And fat people deserve rights.
And the fact that there are people like you who think fat is an imperfection and that fat people shouldn’t be ‘righteous’ about being fat means that the activism we’re doing on this blog is abso-fucking-lutely necessary.
Which means we’ll keep doing it until people like you fade away.

This thread makes me and
You take up more space, you need more material/sustenance to maintain yourself, you use those fucking hover rounds at Wal-Mart. I understand some of you have a medical condition and it can't be helped, but Jesus fucking Christ at least make an effort to be a normal weight/size. Thin privilege is not having to make excuses on a blog because people are disgusted by your refusal to control your size and your vilification of thin people for judging you.

Quote : | " People who are "fat" are made fun of, and that is a terrible and awful thing that should be eradicated, but you can't blame a "thin" person for setting social standards; some are naturally so. I make it a point to accept EVERYONE for who they are and treat them according to personality, not size. So instead of attacking some undefined "priviledge" given to those who are "thin", attack bullying. Hatred doesn't come from size; it comes from malicious intent. People seek out ANY weakness to harm
Asked by ashleychapin
The idea that pointing out thin privilege is about ‘blaming’ thin people for anything is an incredibly thincentric mindset. Thin people, this blog is NOT ABOUT YOU.
Read the FAQs, especially the first one that defines what ‘privilege’ means.
Systems of oppression stratify groups of people in way that’s not usually directly controllable by the individual. In the case of fat bias this means thin people are privileged for their body size and fat people aren’t. Pointing out ways in which thin people are privileged over fat people isn’t blaming a thin person for fat oppression, it’s saying that like it or not, thin people aren’t oppressed for being thin and fat people ARE oppressed for being fat.
Examples of ways in which thin people are privileged: generally, getting their problems treated instead of their weight, not having to pay double to fly, not being BMI-ed out of health insurance, adoption, birthing/fertility options, custody of their own fucking children, certain life-saving medical procedures, being nearly invisible on popular media except as jokes or villains or cautionary tales, having a fucking WAR being waged on us (have you heard about the “War on Obesity”? Because it’s an actual fucking thing, privileged person)…..etc. Like, READ THE FUCKING BLOG and maybe you’d know this.
There’s ignorance, and then there’s willful ignorance. The blog is RIGHT THERE. If you chose not to read it, then it’s not my fucking job to summarize it for you (even though I basically did, but that’s your only freebie).

Thin privilege is a shirt a size too small. You know the kind of shirt. It’s just a little too short and snug. When you move your arms the right way, it rides up and exposes your stomach a little. A thin girl obviously means to do it. She’s being a temptress and a tease. She’s inviting men to stare at her. It’s seen as a good thing. A fat girl doesn’t mean to. She’s a slob and doesn’t care about her appearance. It’s seen as a bad thing. Either way, society says it’s okay to comment about it and make catcalls or retching noises, depending on the circumstance. But thin privilege means it’s “sexy” if you’re thin and “slobby” if you’re fat." |

Quote : | "“But thin people get shamed, too.”
Arguably, thin shaming is related to thin privilege - a kind of lashback effect. Thin, even very thin bodies, are prized and splashed all over TV, movies, and magazines, and it rightfully pisses some people off. People who, instead of directing their anger at a society that privileges thin bodies over fat bodies, direct their anger at thin people.
There are two things to address here. The first is that being told to go eat a sandwich or being forced to take in a baggy pair of pants is not oppression. " |

I can't stop reading this hilarious bullshit. Favorite so far:
Quote : | "Thin privilege is drowning a young fat character and everyone just accepting that he “brought it upon himself.” I love Roald Dahl, but I’ve only just come to terms with the fact that he straight up drowned Augustus Gloop in chocolate, forced him through several miles of plumbing, and implied that his ultimate fate might end up being boiled into sweets. And why? Because he was a chubby child, an evil he puts on par with being spoiled, rude, and violent. At least in the Tim Burton adaptation, they make Augustus a little bit of an asshole, but his punishment is still because he dares to be a fat child." |

The difference between TKE-Teg's flippant suggestion and "thin privilege" is that the former is actually a point of concern about a characteristic that can't well be changed by the individual; some of these posts about "thin privilege" are seriously warped, like the problem with Augustus Gloop wasn't his size but rather his greed (some other issues, like the relative lack of fashionable garments in their size, or the incessant belief by others that they have some advice for the fat person that ze hasn't already heard dozens of times, are phoreal).
