Umami sounds good. Maybe Village. Milk shop sounds good. Farmers Market is probably a stretch for my time table.

I live in LA. Milk is excellent and really worth going. I am not a big fan of In and Out, the burgers are great but I hate the fries there. The Counter (http://www.thecounterburger.com) is an amazing burger.

I'm pretty domestic but West 3rd street area in LA has a lot of great independent restaurants. We go see a lot of plays but that may not be your speed.

I'd recommend going to a comedy club or show (there is always http://www.laughfactory.com). Besides that I just eat and drink here.
