I've been looking at replacing the POS headset that came with my xbox for some time now but I can't decide on what to get. I don't really want to spend a ton of money but it seems like a lot of the headsets that plug directly into the controllers are garbage. I sit about 10 feet from the tv and don't really want a cord running across the floor so I guess wireless is the best option.
Any recommendations? Turtle Beach vs Tritton vs ?

I have turtle beaches, (2nd pair) I love them. My only problem is my girlfriend got me wired ones instead of wireless for Christmas. Get the wireless Turtle Beaches (Black and Green not sure what the number is). 3/8/2013 1:12:13 PM |

Get the x42 I have the x32. The px3 are for the playstation. If you don't mind running a wire across the floor each time you use them the x32 is essentially the same as a x42 3/8/2013 1:41:40 PM |

I have the TB PX5 and they work fine with the 360 and PS3. They're wireless and blue tooth compatible. I can game and answer my phone if I wanted to..lol
I think TB's newest models for the 360 is their XP line. I dunno if they will work with the PS3. I'm guessing they will.
If it was me I would hold off on getting a set, or pick up a cheaper wired set from TB or Tritton. Only reason being is with the new systems set to be released this year I would want to see what the specs are. Will both systems use blue tooth, etc...
I have wired pair of TBs that are nice (X11's I think), but I wanted to go wireless. The cords weren't that much of a pain. Only downside is with a 360 controller you have to plug a wire from your headset to the controller wireless or not. I know TB makes a blue tooth adapter for the 360 controller I don't know anyone who's used it and I just didn't want to spend another $30-$40 on something like that.
I know some folks that love Tritton and have nothing bu good things to say about them. Personally I think they both sound about the same. Only reason I went with TB was for the programmable feature. Who knows, maybe Tritton has something similar to that now. 3/9/2013 7:04:57 AM |

I bought Skullcandy Slyr at BB today to test over the weekend because I needed something and a guy buying a video card suggested it.
Talked on my phone iwth them for 3 hours and my ears are on fire.
Need something better. Does Sennheiser have a product I might like?
Shit....I think Tritton is Sennheiser lol nope, madcatz
I'm fine with USB or 3.5mm that has mic integrated that will work with MBP single in-line port. If I go USB i can listen to my music on internal speakers and keep voice in my headset.

Honestly, if you are willing to spend $80-120 on a gaming headset, totally get a surround sound one. I use a roccat 5.1 analog kave's that I like that I got on sale for $80 shipped from amazon. The rest pads can get uncomfortable for some people unless you wear a hat and it has too little bass for my tastes, but for a gaming headset, it works perfect.
Other's have said they liked the Logitech G35 7.1 usb's that seem about the same price, quality and features as most $100 headsets, but some others my be turned off to the whole plastic body construction.
I too enjoy Tritton's that I've tried at Lan parties and such, but they are absolutely over priced considering TB's are just as good in both fit & finish and quality. 6/9/2013 12:03:27 PM |

I have had a gamecon780 from plantronics for a few weeks now. Its the nicest headset I have had at ~60$ so its hard to know what I am missing out on but it seems well made for a budget headset, has surround sound and the controls are on the earpiece which I really prefer to on the on the wire. Its hard to say if 20$ more dollars for a nicer headset would have been a better choice (given my budget) but if you see them on sale for 40$ or so then I would say it would be a decent budget buy. 6/10/2013 10:26:51 AM |

I actually bought the Logitech G930s based on Azaka's recommendation. I'm digging them so far, but unfortunately they didn't make it into the OSX beta program for Logitech Gaming Software, so my G13 and my G700s are there, but I only get standard USB headset functionality built in to OSX.
I don't want to have to switch to bootcamp partition every time I game, so I'm just dealing with no surround for right now. 6/10/2013 3:30:52 PM |

I also have the original (then Icemat Siberia) SteelSeries Siberia in black and love them.
Which brings me to today's deal:
If you haven't purchased a headset already, and you're OK with a Counterstrike themed headset, you should probably jump on this awesome price...
SteelSeries Siberia V2 Full-Size Gaming Headset with Retractable Microphone and Integrated Volume Controller Price: $37.99 + FREE SHIPPING
http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/97002/1-sale-a-day-steelseries-siberia-v2-gaming-headset-w-volume-controller-counterstrike-global
Doesn't get much better than that (price-wise) for a very quality headset.

I'll probably just keep the Logitechs TBH. I miss 3.5mm at times, but once they get it integrated into game manager for OSX I think it will be sweet.

The recommendations here seem more geared to cheaper (<$100) options, but IMO I wouldn't bother with a so called "gaming headset". They are basically shitty headphones with the word "gaming" slapped to them to justify a higher price. Get a decent pair of open ear headphones (for virtual surround, you can go closed ear if you don't care about that), like these,
http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD700-Open-air-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B000CMS0XU
and a $10 clip on mic (or use bluetooth). Most newer A/V receivers, even entry level ones, come with some sort of virtual surround sound processing for headphones and your PC sound card probably does too. You could also get something like this,
http://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Surround-Processor-Xbox-360-63043006306200/dp/B006W41X36/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1373482249&sr=8-8&keywords=astro+usb+mixamp
Bottom line, don't waste your money on a so called "gaming" headset, you're just buying a relatively low quality pair of headphones for a premium price. 7/10/2013 2:56:54 PM |

they don't even have 3rd party -wired- ones.
polk and turtle beach have some coming in march, but they still have a wire to the controller. those are all i know about besides the garbage "headset" that came in the box. supposedly they're still waiting on the connectors from M$.
in other breaking news: microsoft yet again doesn't have their crap together (hey M$! there are standard connectors and protocols for both wired and wireless audio devices.. use them instead of being dicks and making people use proprietary ones cc: Apple) 2/7/2014 3:36:55 PM |

The skullycandy SLYRs have excellent audiophile reviews. They're designed by Astro. A great deal for $80. I don't use the USB interface, i just plug them directly into my Xonar DG soundcard and they sound great. I also use them with my PS4 controller. 2/9/2014 11:38:00 AM |

Quote : | "The DualShock 4 just has a simple 3.5mm audio jack baked right into its body. The Xbox One controller, on the other hand, has a small proprietary port that wasn't designed for connecting a headset too... at least not without some help. In early March, Microsoft will start selling an adapter that will let you connect your favorite pair of cans to your controller for $25. The small adapter finally opens the console to third-party headsets, be they Turtle Beach or Steel Series. The tiny matte plastic accessory even has buttons for controlling volume and muting your microphone. The latter will definitely come in handy for privately cursing the weak link on your Titanfall team without taking your hands off the controller. If you don't already own a headset though (and don't want to settle for the monophonic chat accessory) you can pick up an Xbox-branded one, with the nearly universal adapter included, for $80. Either way: if you're a multiplayer FPS adict, you're probably going to want to pick up of these when they hit shelves early next month." |

I prefer wireless so I am trying the TB Stealth 700 and Astro A20 side by side. So far, both sound amazing. So amazing that I cannot really tell a difference. I think the 700 is more comfortable but because the leather isn't perforated, my ears sweat a little bit. The A20's foam cups are itchy and I am not a fan of the volume controls on the A20. I like the separate game and chat volume dials on the 700 better. 3/29/2018 11:24:28 AM |

Ending up taking them both back for various reasons. The Astro sounded great and the mic was better but just wasn't comfortable to me. The wireless range was also not so great. The TB700 turned out to hit every mark I had except with the mic. People kept complaining about my mic so I took it back. Guess I will just wait until E3. 4/17/2018 1:43:03 PM |
