Looking to get more into golf this summer and what better way to do it than on the PC!!!
Anyway, looking for a good game to kill time on.
I was thinking Tiger Woods - http://www.pcgamer.com/review/tiger-woods-pga-tour-12-the-masters-review/
but it looks subscription based? online? no thanks. What else is out there?

Tiger Woods '08 was the last passable version of that series. After that they went the whole online route and everything suffered as a result.
After '08 they came out with some sort of thin client for the PC (think TW played over a web browser if that helps), I think it was simply called Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online and it was terrible. TW12 was essentially a more stand alone version of the thin client in that all the in game processing was taking place locally but it still required an account with EA and a persistent internet connection. They even introduced micro-transactions to the franchise. TW12 was the same as TW Online except you could play most of the game offline - game face and all the unlockables (clubs, clothes, stats, etc.) being the only thing that wasn't available offline. So with 12 you got all the minuses of playing browser based game but 75% of it could now be played offline.
And true to Tiger Woods form they found another feature to add to the console version that they inexplicably left out of the PC version. The PC version doesn't include the caddy feature. Not that I think it matters, TW12 is a terrible, terrible game that is stripped of features that were present nearly a decade earlier. A shell of its former self.
John Daly's ProStroke Golf is the only other recent golf game for the PC that I've heard about, it got bad reviews but I never played it. I'd be interested in knowing if that was any good and if there are other PC golf games outside the TW franchise. It's fairly clear that EA Sports wants to get out of producing titles for the PC. All they do is release a terrible game that is inferior to console versions and even lousy when compared to previous versions of the game and then point to piracy, point to bad sales, and use that as the reason why they're not going to release games for the PC. Truth be told they just don't care, which is ok. They don't owe anyone anything, just know that all future TW games are going to suck going in.
Long story short, get a TW game in the '05 - '08 range and you won't be disappointed. They're all largely the same and I guess they are all very cheap now so you may enjoy playing through the career mode on all versions since they are all slightly different. That and the games have been kept alive via mods. Last I checked (years, and years ago) most of the mods/user created courses required file packs from older versions of the game anyway.

^just started playing that...quite fun. Only problem is, the only way you can upgrade your golfer, is by watching commercials or signing up for stuff. Kinda sucks
