What the fuck.
And good point. Why leave the failure that is Google+ running and shut down Google Reader? Assholes. 3/13/2013 9:31:15 PM |

because google+ is an identification engine for tracking you, not the social network it fails to be. google reader makes little money since google+ cookies/google analytics get goog almost the same info/ad vectors 3/13/2013 9:36:46 PM |

*shrug* i use google reader about 10% of what i used to say 5 years ago.
i don't think anybody should be surprised by this. reader hasn't done anything new in years, chrome doesn't even handle rss feeds. google has been de-emphasizing rss as a preferred means for the web to distribute content for years.

The lowering popularity of RSS is what everyone points to, and you know it's true, so this makes a lot of sense.
There's been speculation they might roll something into Google Currents, which I personally use and love. 3/14/2013 3:39:26 AM |

I am extremely pissed about this. I use Google Reader constantly. Lifehacker has a decent article for alternatives.

Are there other options that link up to Reeder? The biggest pain in the ass if there is t is finding a new reader but the read/unread wouldn't sync across all my devices. Would think google could keep this thing up and running given all the random worthless crap they continually put out. 3/18/2013 10:16:12 AM |
