"Proposed abortion rules could close NC clinics" http://www.wral.com/proposed-abortion-rules-could-close-nc-clinics/12227713/
Quote : | ""It's really not about patient safety. This is strictly politics," Reed said. "It's an attempt to make it impossible for women to access abortion."
Under federal law, states cannot outlaw abortions, but they can make them hard to get.
Two years ago, North Carolina lawmakers approved new restrictions on abortion, requiring women to receive counseling and wait 24 hours before a procedure. Women also now have to have an ultrasound as the physician describes the images." |
They've already added some restrictions.
Quote : | "Reed notes that, when Mississippi passed a law last year identical to what Daniel has proposed, local hospitals found themselves under political pressure over whether to grant privileges to physicians who perform abortions.
"What happened as a result of that is that no providers were given admitting privileges," she said. "The hospitals, quite frankly, did not want protesters out in front of their hospitals interfering with their practice of medicine.
"At this point, Mississippi is very close to closing its very last abortion clinic."
Daniel said he hadn't thought about any impact on medical clinics when he drafted the bill.
"I guess I don't know exactly how it will affect clinics across the state," he said." |
(emphasis added)
It's like these guys in the General Assembly are proposing every single bill that ALEC or any other national corporatist or social conservative group writes for them without even thinking them through first. As noted in the story, efforts like this have been used to virtually abortion bans in other states.
If they want to reduce the number of abortions, how about smarter sex ed as a starter?3/21/2013 5:46:34 PM |

I thought that states weren't allow to effectively ban things via regulation and onerous requirements that the Supreme Court has said are ok. Or is that an informal rule based on courts reaffirming their own decisions when handling cases about these kinds of regulations. 3/21/2013 6:23:14 PM |

Good. abortions should be harder to get at least. it is, after all, the act of killing a human being. 3/21/2013 7:50:32 PM |

i hope that if you ever convince a woman to have sex with you, she gets pregnant and has complications and dies in childbirth 3/21/2013 7:56:32 PM |

OK, come on, that's not a valid retort to what he said. He didn't say they should be outlawed. 3/21/2013 10:18:04 PM |

abortions aren't easy enough to get. i wouldn't mind taxpayer-funded abortions. 3/21/2013 10:22:51 PM |

No, just de facto outlaw them by creating arbitrary obstructions to it that will cause facilities to close. way different apparently
How about this response then:
"I hope that next time you need surgery you can't get it because a law was passed that required the doctor to stay with you throughout your entire recovery and since they can't then you die" 3/21/2013 10:26:15 PM |

What is the age of the fetus at which you could be charged with two murders if you kill a pregnant woman? Does it match up to the age of the fetus at which you can no longer have a legal abortion? 3/21/2013 10:50:12 PM |

Probably not. The pro-life people are the ones who pushed for the double murder thing precisely so they could create dilemmas like the one you're posing. 3/21/2013 11:44:28 PM |

Is there any other medical procedure where the state requires doctors to shame you before performing it? 3/22/2013 11:02:58 AM |

That is exactly what they are doing--listening to their corporate masters in ALEC. Voter ID, fast track fracking, abortion restrictions, I wouldnt be surprised if drug testing for welfare recipients came up too. You are wrong to imply that they don't know precisely what they are doing though. I would love for media/watchdogs to shine a spotlight on ALEC so we can all see what they are up to...3/22/2013 11:34:45 AM |

did it have anything to do with the trial that is going on now in Philly?

The doctor that is on trial now for performing late term abortions, killing a lady, and keeping baby parts in jars. Just weird. 3/23/2013 5:42:37 AM |

It's been tried in Florida, TKE, and not only was it a colossal money-wasting failure, but it turns out welfare recipients actually use drugs at a lower rate than the general population. You could try and reshape your beliefs to reflect these new facts or you can just dig your heels in and embrace delusion instead.
[Edited on April 4, 2013 at 10:22 AM. Reason : judging by your AGW thread posts, probably the latter option] 4/4/2013 10:20:36 AM |

Ah, that's interesting about Florida. Thanks.
I guess making it tougher to receive welfare is the way to go then.
