Rap was better when they had ideas. As was rock. As was pop.

Rap was best in da early to mid 90s. I don't think it correlates to cash flow.

Pretty sure we saw the pinnacle of quality rap with the release of Boost Mobile's New "Anthem".

Is oddfuture legit? Some girl tried to tell me it wasn't like other rap cuz they made all their albums and merch themselves. I'm culturally isolated from anything that isn't metal or indie rock.

yeah all great art is rooted in suffering. thats pretty much the gist of it.

if you are free from suffering then you can unlock bits of genius and/or induce suffering with drugs like booze, opium and coke.

EMCE is right and I think that pretty much covers it.

Except that the majority of all art from history was funded very highly. The last ~90 years of music is basically the only exception in all of history. Lest we forget that people used to actually like art before Pregnant at 16 took over

you mean the commissioned stuff i take it. I'd probably take issue with that being called the majority of art

Are you kidding here? Most artists (musicians, poets, painters) don't get Texas$ till very late/never.

Ever heard of a guy named Townes Van Zandt?

what about painters and poets? they are the epitome of a "starving artist". Comissioned pieces are just a fraction of "art"

you are wrong.

Ok ok no reason to get mad geez

but how does a work being commissioned or "well funded" affect the fact if it was good, then suffering was it's progeny

Rap was better before rappers themselves realized how dumb most of their own audience is and started catering to that segment of the market. It's like most of these fucks aren't even trying anymore.

Don't get me wrong though, a lot of great literature and art has come from people that were born into wealthy families. Obviously.
