Final Season premiers June 30, 2013.
clip was posted today:

Quote : | "‘Dexter‘s final season is officially final. It’s officially official! Yes, at long last, Showtime has definitively confirmed that the upcoming year for everyone’s favorite serial killer will indeed be the last, bringing an end to the eight-year series staring Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter. To commemorate the news, Showtime has even released a full-length clip form the new season featuring a crazed Deb, so what are you waiting for? Preview ‘Dexter’s final season inside!
‘Dexter’ fans, you just hit the mother-lode. Not only has the new season premiering June 30 on Showtime officially been confirmed as the last, but the network has released a brand-new clip from the new season featuring Dexter and Deb at each other’s throats! Sad news for some to be sure, but a relief for those hoping ‘Dexter’ season 8 would prove a fitting goodbye.
The news of ‘Dexter’s final season comes after months of speculation, even after Showtime’s parent company CEO Les Moonves essentially confirmed the end of the series. Entertainment Weekly first broke the news, as Michael C. Hall reacted to the news saying:
I’ve been an advocate for having a dialog with the writers and getting a sense of how to best bring this story home — not wrap everything up with a tidy bow, but find some sort of conclusion. There has to be an end game. Once Deb found out, it felt like we were moving toward a place where the world as Dexter knew it would end.
Elsewhere, ‘Dexter’ season 8 will feature appearances from ‘One Tree Hill’s’ Bethany Joy Lenz as Dexter’s new neighbor Cassie, ‘Last Resort‘ star Darri Ingolfsson as her antique-dealing paramour, ‘Entourage‘s’ Rhys Coiro as a bail jumper on Deb’s radar, ‘The Walking Dead‘ star Nick Gomez as a hitman that comes to tangle with Deb, Charlotte Rampling as criminal profiling neuro-psychiatrist Dr. Evelyn Vogel, and ‘The Boondock Saints’ star Sean Patrick Flanery as ex-cop turned private-eye Jacob Elroy, mentioned in the clip below.
What say you? Are you sad to hear that ‘Dexter’ season 8 will officially prove the last? Check out the tense new clip below, and tell us what you want to see from the final season premiering June 30!" |

Early speculations on how the series will end? Will Dex be caught, die, get away scott free? What does TWW thing...I for one am excited to find out. Will be sorry to see the show go, but I think it has run its course. Especially with similar shows starting to crop up elsewhere like The Following and Hannibal. 4/26/2013 8:48:59 AM |

I don't see how the series can end short of Dexter dying. It seems like that's the only way to bring a sense of closure to the show. Otherwise it would feel like they could make Dexter: "The Prison Years" or Dexter: "Argentina", etc. In some shows it's acceptable to end with everyone happy but I don't think that's the case here.
Deb may end up dying, or even worse/better, be the one that ends up killing Dexter. 4/26/2013 1:31:19 PM |

even though its not in his mental makeup, you'd think numerous times throughout the series Dexter could've avoided suspicion instead of just staring blankly and coldly...like with this new lady, or with Doakes, etc...just put on a fake smile and laugh at a fake joke every now and then instead of looking like such a psychopath 7/2/2013 7:00:48 PM |

It's not a spoiler if it's just a theory right? Cause I'm wondering if you're thinking the same thing I'm thinking.
edit: seems like 90% of the commenters over at hitfix have the same idea I did. It's not exactly subtle, which makes me wonder if they're being shitty at hiding "the twist" or if it's all misdirection.

also completely based on nothing but a wild hair up my ass, and unrelated to that I want to say I think the series will end with Deb killing Dexter.

i like the direction of the season so far, lots of possibilities to end to the end of dexter
is Vogel somehow involved in the killings? will Deb's drinking get everybody busted? will this new psychopathic serial killer somehow kill dexter? or will it be ^deb or will he just end up getting caught and not killed? 7/8/2013 2:01:05 AM |
ncsuallday Sink the Flagship 9818 Posts user info edit post |
what if he gets shot/hit in the head and it essentially causes him to not want to kill anymore? Everyone would like to see a happy ending and somehow I think something like that is going to happen or he's going to make a noble sacrifice of himself to save Deb. I don't really see him just going to prison, it would be too anticlimactic. 7/8/2013 9:57:41 AM |

I'm thinking that Vogel is getting all of her past serial killers to kill the other serial killers by manipulating them like she did Dexter. Maybe she is studying the pieces of brain she gets from each of the kills. 7/8/2013 10:27:06 AM |
puck_it All American 15446 Posts user info edit post |
I think vogel is the killer or is involved as mentioned. She wasnt alarmed that the killer knew where she lived, despite just getting to town. Could just be a plot hole.
But if you watch her, she's very even keeled. Perhaps much like a psychopath. Maybe that's why she's an expert... But she gets her rocks off on experimenting and not murdering... Or murdering vicariously.
I think she ultimately kills dexter, especially if we find that she's been involved in the murders. (But I think everyone's always been sold on Batista being the one who puts it together)

It seems too obvious they are hinting at Vogel being involved in the killings, but as someone else mentioned that may just be a subtle red herring. Still, she seems so nonchalant about being hunted by a former patient. Also she seems annoyed at Deb taking Dexter's attention away from her, which may lead to Vogel ending up on Dexter's table.
And why would she suddenly show up now in Dexter's life and reveal herself just as this new killer has sprung up? Seems too convenient. Not only that but this new killer just happens to also leave parts of his victim's brains on her doorstep?
As for how the show will end, there's still plenty of possibilities... 7/8/2013 8:43:07 PM |

that there are, but I don't see a scenario that doesn't involve Vogel being involved in these killings.
the question to me is how does it end. dexter getting killed [by whoever]. dexter sacrificing his life for deb? it's early, but dexter is already overwhelmed by his guilt about his responsibility for the state of deb's current life...so that speaks to him sacrificing his life for hers. also no way does he live with the dark nature of this show.
Quote : | "I think she ultimately kills dexter" |
I don't see that, at least not directly...especially with all this "i created you" / "you are perfect" / "you are necessary in this world" stuff7/8/2013 9:34:33 PM |
puck_it All American 15446 Posts user info edit post |
But, "I brought you into this world, I'll take you out" may manifest itself. She may find dexter is no longer a perfect killing machine (he's shown cracks)... I think, if we find she has been the killer so far, it could be dexters ultimate demise. It would be very full circle.
I fully accept this could be a red herring premise though....because after thinking...
The thing that bothers me is I doubt we will get real closure. So much tells us he needs to die or get caught. But that won't be a very shocking ending that gets people talking, right? Death or capture is too clean. Had the series ended with season seven, in the shipping container, and deb pointing the gun at laguerta.... But the scene just ends before the trigger pull... That is an ending that would cause controversy. 7/8/2013 11:23:55 PM |

pretty good episode...with the fitness store in the mall scene, i came to realize that one of my favorite parts about this show is "the hunt"...based on previews from next week it seems like Deb goes from being certainly the one to get Dexter caught to maybe understanding him more and changing her desire to confess, but who knows 7/15/2013 2:31:27 AM |
omicron101 All American 3662 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah it appears Vogel isn't involved with the brain surgeon as some of us thought, though at the same time also voiced our doubts. Still, she seems set to play a vital role in how the series ends.
With Deb it's tough to predict how she will react each episode. One minute she seems okay and the next she's spiraling down the drain. I don't see a happy ending for her or Dexter. Maybe Quinn ultimately gets the bust on both of them and earns his sergeant badge. 7/15/2013 6:44:21 PM |

"Hero Cop, Joey Quinn, Catches the Real Bay Harbor Butcher and his Cop Killer Sister!"
I don't know if it will go that way, but Quinn could start prying into what the hell Deb was talking about. And he had been very suspicious of Dexter before... shit, he had him watched and the guy who did it ended up dead. They tell us that Quinn isn't the sharpest, but he's not deaf and blind.
Preview spolier................
But.... the preview made it look like Deb was going to start coming around. So I think she is going to calm down for at least a bit. Quinn may dig on his own though.

a theory... the doctor is a sicko who is in the business of turning people into serial killers, like she did dexter. she turns deb into a serial killer. dexter kills deb because she then meets his code. 7/17/2013 7:42:57 PM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
That would be a pretty wild direction to take it. I could definitely buy the part about Vogel trying to create serial killers. And Deb has killed two people now... in a similar fashion.
But now I'm starting to worry that I'd like that much more than any way they try to wrap it up. 7/17/2013 7:44:39 PM |
omicron101 All American 3662 Posts user info edit post |
^^ She didn't turn Dexter into a serial killer, he would have been one anyway. She just helped Harry develop the code so he wouldn't get caught.
Another possibility is that Deb does in fact start to go on with her life and accept what she did but Quinn starts digging and gets too close to her. This causes Deb to ultimately go after Quinn and Dexter is faced with the same decision Deb was with LaGuerta... Does he kill the cop or his sister? 7/17/2013 10:35:58 PM |
