Like how only one school in the top 10 has 50+% for Minority and Economically Disadvantaged. Way to go Salisbury High.

Nor was mine... but when I looked it up, the college preparedness was higher than most on that list. What are the qualifications, any idea?

Nevermind, my high school was run by liberals. No way republicans would let it count.

Wrong Eastern BBQ >= Western BBQ

Eastern NC High School Football > Western NC

Eastern NC Women > Western NC

So Salisbury is number 10 in the state but is below the NC average in Algebra and only near the NC average in English. Looks like the rankings are solely based on the college readiness rating.

So much WTF. How did Middle Creek and Pittsboro make it but Green Hope and Panther Creek didn't? Or Broughton?

Salisbury has a history of making sure that only their best students actually apply for college which improves the statistics used by USA today. They are also a school that is 50-60% low income housing project minority and 30% country club brat. With the right person in charge those 30% can make any school look good.

^ I live a mile from SHS and it definitely has a unique mix of students. There are more poor black kids but also a considerable amount of country clubbers too. They also aren't as likely to take the at-risk kids from middle school (or so I've heard) and direct them toward the alternative school.

I've always speculated that I could have gotten into a better college if I hadn't attended a good HS w/ lots of intelligent students.

Standards being lower at shittier high schools and whatnot.

At SHS, if you were white, made decent grades and were an athlete then you could pretty much do whatever the hell you wanted. I didn't do jack shit and graduated with a 3.9 gpa which was enough to get me into NC State. I had one friend, though, who was black and lived in the hood. He graduated, received a diploma, but couldn't read well enough to pass his drivers license exam

Broughton not on the list

not surprised. They had a huge problem with overcrowding when I went there (10+ years ago) and I can only imagine how it is now

I wonder how the hell Carrboro HS is on the list but Chapel Hill & East Chapel Hill HS are both not? From what I understood, that was the more ghetto of the three.
