Getting a PhD is difficult for everybody. There is not a racial barrier. Sure a bunch of Asian students come and work hard with little compensation, but you can say the same for the American students. There is no clear but double standard that I have noticed between races. Most grad students are free labor for about 4 or 5 years to their research advisor. That is a part of the system. You think that you go to grad school to become a super scientist, but in reality you just end up doing work that your prof wants to fulfill his/her dreams.
