^ Was in the ring before and after every fight on the card, holding the flag behind the Mexican fighters. Best moment was that the skeleton was lip-syncing the Mexican national anthem. 5/5/2013 1:44:34 AM |

^ Boxing's fanbase is actually growing. Although that's because the Mexican part of our population is growing.
The issue with boxing here is everything is catered to ethnicity. If you're black, you cheer for blacks. If you're Mexican, you cheer for Mexicans. Ditto Puerto Ricans, Haitians, Irish, Italians, Polish, Jewish. White America outside of the white ethnic groups like Irish and Poles? Dead. The one boxer that demonstrated in recent times he could draw across multiple ethnic groups and that's Pacquiao. The thing Pacquiao had going for him was he was on PPV forever as the opponent for Mexican stars.
If you talk to any knowledgeable boxing people, they'll tell you HBO has always viewed boxing as their way to draw black subscribers to the network. So what do they do? They push black guys to the moon and overly promote ethnicity to the detriment of their product and it leads to them orchestrating financial flops like Tim Bradley-Devon Alexander. Having the two best heavyweights in the world also being two white Ukrainians for a very long time is also very harmful for them. And this is the kind of stuff that if it was done for whites, blacks and Mexicans would say it is overtly racist (in fact, they do now for a young guy named Mike Lee that is an up-and-coming Irish boxer), but that's what the whole sport promotionally revolves around.
It leads to talented boxers like Sergio Martinez of Argentina the networks don't have interest in him unless he's facing a guy they want to promote because no Argentines live in this country. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7709548/macklin-martinez-racial-politics-boxing
Boxing in the future you're going to replace what blacks have been for the past couple decades and replace them with Mexicans. The next Mayweather if there is one is Adrien Broner, and I think he has limited appeal, so your big stars in this country will likely be Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
