You know, in my Earth science class about two weeks ago we learned about groins (ha), etc. I explained what they were, showed some google earth shots of them, and the students decided for themselves that NC was better off without them. I wish I had known that these people were considering this when we were in that unit.

Haha, my dad is a hardline Republican but we're from the coast, and he's kinda pissed about the groins cap removal. Hopefully it won't matter, since it was mentioned that none of the three previously approved were even built, but if the cap removal also removes safeguard restrictions, then ocean developers will be all over this.

Definitely not happy about it. As far as the Lake Jordan stuff, I need to read THE SCIENCE, but my girlfriend (who did a lot of undergrad research with Lake Jordan) is pretty annoyed.

Yeah, the Jordan rules, particularly in the Haw arm (most of the watershed, including lots of RTP and the Triad region) are pretty lax. Especially compared to the new Falls Rules, which are much more stringent.

the Jordan Lake program is just a couple years old, and most of the changes to development haven't been implemented. and they only apply to new development anyways.

basically you just have to check your nitrogen and phosphate runoff when you do your peak runoff analysis as part of your SIA, they even give you an excel spreadsheet and if you have questions you can get a meeting.
