Revamping all the flower gardens this year. I found this plant in the completely shade bed (the house continually shades this bed, it gets no sun whatsoever). This bed gets chock full of weeds, and we ripped so much vegetation out last year. I'm guessing it must be bulb or tuber based then.

I seriously do not remember seeing it any of the years prior (this is the third year), and I didn't plant anything in this bed, so I'm really curious what this is.

It's really rather pretty. I see another one in the bed, but it doesn't have any buds on it.

Any ideas?

I am going with peony. Peonies are blooming this time of year and they come from roots that have been wintering under the ground. Not sure of what type it is but here are some photos. You may have a couple more bloom shortly. Keep them. They are nice cut and taken into the house. Ants find the blooms attractive i.e. don't bring the ants into the house.

I thought peony as well, but the leaves didn't look right. And peonies are typically full sun.
