When I was listening to Saul's story in the audio book novel of Hyperion (im not a good reader) I came across the notion of obedience versus righteousness. To many of you, more learned, theologist this may sound rather juvenile but I cant help but not think about this. Its kinda alarming.

In the story of Abraham, when Abraham was tried for his obedience to his God and passed, he was made father bearer of the blessed nations on Earth by his God.

My thoughts on the matter are this:

If his God had not made him father bearer of the blessed nations on Earth could his God be considered a cruel God that applies harsh principles to install lessons.

Additionally, wouldn't this mean the actual story displays both a cruel AND evil entity not worthy of being called a God.

And lastly, does anybody else not see this story as barring to the three religions that have built themselves upon it.

Trying not to be on the verge of a self righteous tirade. Look at Christianity. It was quickly swallowed up and consolidated by the Romans when it got out. The council of Nicea and Constatine (who was a Pagan) stamped Christianity into form that suited the empire at the time. How much of is actually true to its original form.

If you take a critical look at what Christianity today resembles, it looks like necromancy and some sort of weird blood cult, which substituted divination over egulatarian views.

It is laughable how the old testament is cited as the reason for condemning LGBT people yet Christians then ignore things like Deuteronomy 22:13-21. These passages basically state if a man finds out his wife lost her virginity prior to marriage the parents of the woman must prove she is. If they can't she must be stoned to death.
