Personally I don't see why people wear them - I just play my music as loud as I want and say fuck those people cause I'm alpha dog.
Reality is, I just don't find them to be comfortable to wear. Most don't move with me, and doesn't feel natural, not even going to comment on the feeling of some just raping my earhole.

I don't hate them. I don't like earbud style phones for comfort reasons. The only benefit I have found is they are more compact and don't fall off your head like cup style headphones, but you shouldn't be out walking or running or riding your bike or skating or doing anything active in headphones anyway. Blocking out one of your main senses is not a good idea in those situations. I do enjoy wearing big cushy headphones at work. Blocks out the shop noises and allows me to listen to my music at a comfortable volume. 5/24/2013 12:46:31 AM

I don't like the isolation - I actually get very anxious when I wear headphones, especially in a social environment. Sucks, because I bought some Sennheiser RS 170's for use at work that I have difficulty using. I'm actually thinking about buying a cheap 2-channel mixer and a microphone (yeah, I know - crazy) just so I can hear the outside environment while using these.
I think it's because my job involves working with computers, and sometimes I tend to talk out loud to myself when working on a problem - something I do not want my coworkers to hear. Wearing headphones makes this much harder to suppress because I can't hear myself. 5/24/2013 8:01:42 AM

I wear headphones when I mow/work outside. I can't stand earbuds. The several I have tried start to hurt after a couple hours, and I haven't found any that will stay in my ears. 5/24/2013 9:01:51 AM

This is exactly why I wear headphones(ear buds) at work. I have my own problems I'm trying to think through and you out loud thinkers are annoying. 5/24/2013 9:36:06 AM

I have to wear glasses constantly, and wearing headphones presses my ears against the frame of the glasses, in turn pressed against my head, so that gets painful after a while 5/24/2013 10:31:35 AM

^ this is true. when I wear sunglasses out in the yard I get the same thing. to me it's not as bad as the ear pain caused by earbuds, plus I don't have to constantly stop what I'm doing to put them back in. 5/24/2013 10:37:55 AM

It's cheaper to get great sounding headphones than great sounding speakers, so I'm a fan.
Got a pair of these http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B000ULAP4U
Plus some cheaper JVC flats and about 8 pairs of cheap earbuds scattered around so that I can find some whenever I might need them. The soft tip kind, not the iPod kind, those don't fit my ears. 5/24/2013 5:23:44 PM
