because you are taking books that serve a purpose (that are hardcover and cost $15+ a pop making this project costing you well over $100, in theory) and making them no longer functional ..... so that you can glue them to an empty box just so you can make it seem like you read, but really you just have a bunch of useless crap inside instead??

it seems pretty lame, and I cringe anytime someone destroys a book..... but o well
