So can't wait for this. Hopefully they combine the best parts of DA:O (overworld, unique areas) and DA2 (combat mechanics & fluidity) and make this awesome. Looks like a Q4 2014 release date. 6/12/2013 4:51:27 PM |

I was was about to come in and post that DA:2 wasn't all bad but then I can't really think of anything . I did enjoy it but yeah it's a bit of a mess.
Though I kinda prefer the Qunari redesign.6/12/2013 5:51:45 PM |

Nah I didn't hate DA2 like some people did but I can't think of anything that it did better than DAO
Qunari redesign is alright but turning the Darkspawn from evil scary monsters to Power Rangers Puttys is almost unforgivable.

All I remember is the end of the game being back inside the main town and a shit load of running back and forth through the slums area

Origins was just more immersive and more of a real RPG.
DA2 was a bastardization of Origins in the RPG sense, but a good improvement for combat. 6/13/2013 4:03:23 PM |

DA:O i finished. DA2 I made about 75% before I just gave up. Origins was fantastic and immersive. DA2 felt like a hack and slash 6/13/2013 4:24:43 PM |

The combat mechanics was basically the same, DA2 was just animated to look more action packed. Also instead of just dying realistically the enemies literally fell apart into a dozen bloody chunks.
I liked DAO combat better because instead of the challenge being provided by wave after wave of cannon fodder like DA2 you often encountered a group of very tough enemies. Also unlike DA2 the enemies used the same spells and abilities you did, so you could actually be hit with some killer debuffs or paralysis spells that would tear your party up, instead of just "fire damage X"
One of my favorite battles of DAO, and one I lost a few times in my several playthroughs, was the group of mercenaries they sent after you outside of the Dwarf stronghold. They didn't massively outnumber you or have tons of extra hitpoints but it was a well constructed party that fought smart.

I also liked the fact that you HAD to stop time in Origins in order to give each party member specific commands. So when the fight was very difficult, pausing the game every few seconds to issues new commands was essential, because the automatic combat you configured wasn't fast enough to keep you alive. You really felt like the group commander.
If they bring back that feel, they will save the series. 6/17/2013 9:55:43 AM |

These videos are pretty old, from PAX, but I hadn't seen them before today.
Looks pretty awesome. Seems like they are bringing back most of the mechanics from DA:O plus great graphics from the Frostbite engine.

Early Access (if you have EA Access) is Nov 13, though you only get to play 6 hours from what I've read.
Regardless, anyone playing and wanting to replicate their save game(s) into DA:I use this site. Pretty cool little tool: dragonagekeep.com 11/4/2014 9:54:42 AM |

^^ Kind of similar to Mass Effect 3 multiplayer in that you use premade characters that you unlock and level up in 4 player co-op, but instead of a small map with 10 waves of enemies you're working through a large dungeon broken up into 5 sections.
Doing missions earns you experience points to level up your current character and gold to unlock loot chests outside the missions, which contain potions and new weapons and armor to equip your characters. 11/14/2014 7:57:49 AM |

Are there random loot drops a'la Diablo? Because if so I'll need to sign over a significant chunk of my life to play the MP.
Also I'm a fan of starting a list of players so we can add each other if we want to MP:

If you want to catch up on the story after missing one or both games, or even just to remind yourself of what happened before the new game:
https://dragonagekeep.com/en_US/
This lets you go through the stories of both games and make choices about what you did while refreshing you about what happened. It also creates a game state that you can import into DAI so you don't have to do any save importing. 11/14/2014 7:07:26 PM |

+1 on this tool.
Also, you can save multiple game worlds on your profile, and just load up one or the others when you decide to have another playthrough.11/17/2014 8:25:18 AM |

Rerolled about 4 times until I finally landed on a mage. The combat is a little more interesting as a ranged toon rather than melee. 11/25/2014 8:10:58 AM |

I guess DA2 selling like shit finally got Bioware to pull their collective heads out of their asses and produce a good game. It's actually better than good, it lives up to the review hype and more. Even some of the negatives mentioned can be fixed by simply raising the difficulty level (reviewers are forced to play through games on the default difficulty). I haven't had as much time for gaming lately so I haven't even really played that many of the modern RPGs, but this is at least as good a one as Fallout 3 and maybe even Baldur's Gate II. 11/26/2014 3:25:58 PM |
