when a few people die every hour of every day due to gun crimes alone; and we let victims go bankrupt because of those medical bills. Why are some things worth huge dollar funds for victims and some are not? If we are going to pay for some victims, shouldn't they be for crimes that are statistically significant and not those which are outliers?

Probably because we can afford to pay the outliers.

A lot of it is supposed to go to the peoples prosthetic limbs. Those things are god awful expensive and require extensive rehab.

do you feel the same way about the 9/11 or Katrina charity funds?

I don't know enough about any Katrina funds, but the 9/11 fund was a clusterfuck and was abused by many people. Regardless, both of those were very different.

Most cars have at least 300k in liability coverage.

North Carolina takes care of innocent victims of crimes. I know this first hand.

b/c all press about "terrorism" is good press.

except when it's about us committing it. then it's illegal press.

People were willing to help out of their own pockets, as opposed to using a victims fund that uses state money, leaving it to rape victims, etc.

To be clear, you have a problem with this?

^^ I have a problem that we only do it to victims worthy of media coverage and not for any other victims or even people who have medical expenses unrelated to crime. We give a big "fuck you" to anyone who can't afford medical care... unless it involved 24/7 news coverage, then you get a few million dollars. We should care more about every day people and less about a few victims from an isolated crime.

And what exactly have you done for the anonymous person hurt in a car wreck or some other injury that hasn't made the news ?

so people like being nice to other people? so what?

who cares if it's only this much donations for nationally covered disasters?

maybe all it means people is that when people feel they can give back something, and they choose something recognizable and clearly for good intentions.

^^ i volunteer every week (well lately, every other week) and donate 10% of my after-tax income to charities. i also spend time writing letters and lobbying for things i think need to change.

idiot

(and I specifically try to chose charities that have good ratings and give to underrepresented causes that are not popular or fashionable, those that need it)

does other people giving to a publicized cause that they don't research enough really take away from your donations and volunteer work? I'm only asking because you sound so bitter on this topic.

Why don't you list the charities that you give to so that I can bitch about them. I might even indirectly include myself in the charity by saying "we" even though I didn't give a damn cent to it.
