BREAKING NEWS: Sources have told WRAL that Dereck Whittenburg, a former NC State guard and assistant coach, will join the Wolfpack staff. Whittenburg played for NC State from 1979-83, winning the national championship in '83. He has had two different stints as an assistant coach for the Wolfpack.

Meh. Better to spend the money on a young and upcoming coach than a former player/washed-up coach.

I love Whittenburg for what he helped us do in 1983, but no use hanging on to the past. That was tried and failed with Sidney.

You realize that Sid was hired as a a Head Coach, right? And that's a much different role than "Director of Player Development", right? You realize that Larry Farmer was our former "Director of Player Development", and not many young, upcoming coaches are "Directors of Player Development", right?
