Long story short, I'm trying my best to get out of my current department. Too much drama and after 6.5 years here, it's really starting to affect my outlook and even my personal life (stress). Enough is enough.

I applied to a job 2 weeks ago even though it was a completely different kind of job and not necessarily my real career ambition. I would just use it as a stepping stone. I had a phone interview with HR and I really had to pretend that THAT job was my new career direction I wanted to go in, "new opportunities for growth", etc etc.

Last week a new job was posted that is ACTUALLY what I would love to be doing. And I'm MUCH MUCH more qualified for this second job.

If I get an interview for this second job, I'm scared it may be with the same HR person haha. Now i'm wondering how I sell myself for this job after having told them I wanted to go in the direction of the first job? Any tips on this?

This is a VERY large global company, fyi. Thousands of employees.

I would probably just be honest with the person if its the same or they ask any questions about it. Tell them you want to stay within the company but the current situation you are in is not the best for you so you were exploring other options within the company. They have to know that no one is gonna apply for a job and then act like they dont want to do it ya know? Just tell them at that time you thought maybe trying something different would get you back on your toes with learning something new, but this job is more up your alley and something you would like to pursue.

Watch out for that stupid rule a lot of big companies have that you can not change positions with less than one year at your current one.

I was just in a similar position, I applied for several positions in the last 3 months just to get away from my current bosses. I love my department, and I've been really happy with the company; I've got hopes of making it pretty far up here, but my current position has been holding me back. My last job bid request was for the position of my 1st shift counterpart, and I just found out tonight that I was given the job, but now I am a bit worried, because I am always looking for the next step up, and I don't want the company to feel like I'm just bouncing around. I mean, what happens if in 2 months something better opens up?
