I'm wanting to get out in the country and see the meteor shower when it happens. Anyone got any good ideas for a place outside the triangle? I might also try and take time-delay photos as well, so I'm wanting a nice dark area.

Lake wheeler isnt bad, theres not too much light pollution out that way.

Really depends on how far out in the "country" you want to go. Obviously the further away from a city the less light pollution.

Somewhere near the 40/42 area would be ideal...easy to access and out of any large towns lights.

Morehead Planetarium does some skywatching stuff out at Jordan Lake. They actually have one tomorrow night from 8:30-10:30 at the Ebenezer Church Recreation Area. I am considering taking my family out there so that I can see what the area is like and the boys can get their Astronomy Belt Loop. I might head back out there during the peak of the meteor shower to see what I can photograph myself.

One year I drove down US 1 then up to the far side of Jordan Lake, parked on the side of a causeway sat on a boat ramp. Worked pretty well.

Anywhere northeast of Nashville or Rocky Mount will be very dark.

^Yep, I used to live there and just a couple miles outside of town it was DARK. I could ride like 5 minutes and see a ton of meteors at the grass runway just north of Scotland Neck. Good viewing. Kinda up the creek in Carrboro, but at least I'm on the western edge of the Triangle, so I don't have to travel as far as others to get some dark skies.

According to the Dark Sky map, anywhere but Charlotte. Only part of the state that shows light pollution as solid white.

Went out on a raft in the middle of a Chapel Hill lake for a while. Skies were clear. Saw a few, but it was slow. I'll go back out later when they're supposed to be more frequent.

it was raining/cloudy where i live.

i tried, because i live in bumfuck and the skies are glorious. i see meteors pretty much every night if i go outside and watch for a little while.
