our tents weren't built to the standard to withstand the torrential downpour that we encountered when we were driving away
here's another pic

I have been camping at that same campground through big storms. Hell I even have the same green tent that is in the both of those pictures. Wuss.
Last trip out there a young couple was camping right next to us in a very small tent. It was quite warm and muggy overnight. I woke early to find them both "sleeping" in the front seats of their car with the engine running to provide them A/C. They were still in there by the time I got my family up, fed and packed up. Again, what a wuss.

fuck the sand is right
we had already stayed over Friday night and were gonna leave this morning, but that rolled in last night and we decided to head on out
my coworker took the pictures on his phone because my phone's battery had drained and wouldn't turn on, so I'll relay the camera comments to him 8/11/2013 12:54:03 PM

^^^We've done it in the tent a couple times, but most often pull the camper when we do beach camping. Its a lot easier tent camping in the western part of the state. 8/11/2013 1:35:15 PM

I always take a few plastic grocery bags with me. I fill them with sand, tie the handles in a knot, and bury them about 4-6 inches deep. I use the handle loops to tie-off my guy lines. They make much more stable anchors than any stake in the sand.
Also, Masonboro Island FTW. 8/12/2013 1:01:33 AM

the tent stakes that are ~12" long, thin, galvanized angle iron work just fine on the beach for me 8/12/2013 8:28:09 AM

I was able to get the basic tent stakes to work, so I did not pick up any of those monster sand spikes that they suggest/sell at Oregon Inlet. 8/12/2013 8:37:56 AM
