To be honest. If you have an extra car, park it there, if it is far from being done load absolutely everything up. Knowing someone is to there is perfect for these dicks. set up hidden deer cameras on the property. they are pretty cheap, motion activated, and they take night vision pictures. I recommend them on calls a lot, to people that are having their property targeted.

Do you have the serial number for the saw? I'd check the local pawn shops. That dude is clearly on meth, so I'm sure he sold the saw almost immediately.

pawn shops are required to enter the serial numbers of all goods and to require an ID to sell it. if you give the cops a serial number then they will run it through the database and if it has been sold at a pawn shop it will flag the entry.

Yes, they have to present ID. This is assuming the guy they arrested is the one who actually stole and sold it. Often times they will resell to anyone on the street who will then sell it at a pawn shop. You should call the cops and get the detective handling your case and talk to him. This case won't be dealt with for months, but contact the DA when it get to their office because he will have to pay you restitution if you don't get the saw back.

Back in college I worked with a guy who left an old boombox playing music pretty loudly when he was gone. He left it tuned to one of the local stations and just plugged it in at the end of the day. The sites he worked on had power and some level of physical security (locked doors), but they were clearly uninhabited.

He said anybody who came up to steal something would leave as soon as they heard the music because they thought somebody was there. It kind of makes sense. It could be a worker or a squatter, but most thieves want to know they're alone when they do their work.
