There was this place in Crabtree back from like 1995 until around 2004, to the right of the Subway in the food court. They had the best hibachi, soba, udon, whatever. It was awesome and I miss that more than any restaurant I've ever loved.

Kanki and Fujisan are both very good. Fujisan gives you noodles and I believe is cheaper.

Kanki has an early bird special before 6:30 on weekdays and I think they have half off beer on Mondays. If you go to Kanki, eat at the grill. If you order it at a table it's just not the same.

I went there not too long ago and hated it...maybe I just got a new chef or something.

With this inquiry, I'd like to steer clear of the sit down places where they cook it in front of you and charge $14-$20 for that pleasure. Would rather get some quality take out in the <$10 arena.

Fujisan was pretty good the few times I've eaten there.

That shit drove me nuts when I lived up there. Kind of weird.

Kanki is probably my favorite in Raleigh.

I'd second hibachi express in crossroads if it is still even there. Some of the best take-out hibachi I've had in the area. Kanki is good but more of a decent dine-in place.

Hibachi Express in Crossroads used to be really good, but it's gone downhill in the past year or so. Also, they only play contemporary Christian music in the dining room.

Hibachi Xpress is still pretty damn good. I had it back in 2004 for the first time, and honestly it's just as good now as it was then! I eat there when I can't go to Kanki (which has been years). I probably should go try other places soon.

Best hibachi chicken I've had in the area actually, though it depends on who's cooking. There's a place in Mission Valley but they cook their chicken in big batches and then store it, so it ends up all soggy and nasty on the outside. 101 does it fresh every time and has surprisingly good fried rice and veggies. The "Japanese Steakhouse" place in Brier Creek is extremely good but not what I want for a quick lunch or dinner that comes in a styrofoam tray.

Akari has the best ~$6.50 hibachi chicken in Raleigh.
I don't know if it can compete in the $10+ category, but, then again, it's probably not trying.

Tasu in brier creek also has some good hibachi.

No place I've been to still had mustard sauce though. I remember drenching my rice with that stuff and the white sauce when I was a kid. Anyone know if someplace still has it?

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teppanyaki

Modern teppanyaki grills are typically propane-heated flat surface grills and are widely used to cook food in front of guests at restaurants. Teppanyaki grills are commonly confused with the hibachi barbecue grill, which has a charcoal or gas flame and is made with an open grate design.[1] With a solid griddle type cook surface, the teppanyaki is more suitable for smaller ingredients, such as rice, egg, and finely chopped vegetables

Has it changed in the last 3+ years? I ask because the last time I went there they used preheated chunks of chicken that had been in a warmer. How does it compare to that Hibachi place next to Pearl?

It's not that great. I've found it pretty bland the couple of times I've stopped in there. I'd pick Hibachi 101 in Brier Creek. Or for a couple more bucks try Tasu. You'd probably have to call in the order since they're not an express place, but it's the tastiest of the three.

How's that compare to Blue Hibachi over in that new complex on 54 and Cary Parkway? that's my current favorite around here.
