I'm a left lane driver. but that's because i'm always passing people. Very rarely on my commute do i have an opportunity to move into another lane where I don't have to immediately jump back over and pass someone. weaving back and forth is only fun in Grand Theft Auto.

and the odd times there is someone approaching behind me in the left lane at a greater rate of speed i immediately move over to let them keep their momentum.

my neighbor's cat did $500 in damage to my car climbing on the roof. they paid for it (eventually, they denied it was their cat at first) and then the next time I saw their cat near my car I called animal control. Leash laws apply to cats too, so animal control took their cat. It was awesome. Fuck cats.

There are bodega cats everywhere in new york and they rarely stray from their store. Cats know where they want to be. If your cat only comes back to eat you're being used.

i do this...our cat is so lazy that i doubt it ever leaves the back yard (which is fenced in for the dogs), but i don't particularly care if it does

I disagree. Around 8 years ago I stayed overnight at a friend's house who had cats that he let roam around outside. Following morning there were cat prints on my car as well as some lovely scratches on the hood. From the cat. He agreed and apologized. Nothing super deep so I was able to compound the scratches out. Not my cup of tea though

There are three problems with immediately getting back to the right after you've passed:

1. Traffic. A lot of times there really isn't enough room on the roads to have one lane reserved for passing.

2. Most passers just want to be in front. If you're going 20 over in the left lane, people will ride your bumper like lunatics. And, if you do move to the right for them (eventually having to slow your own speed substantially in the right lane), they'll invariably pass you at 21 over and then slow to 15 over. There isn't a certain speed they need to go; they just want to be in front.

3. Passers hog the passing lane. So, if you're courteous enough to get back to the right after you've passed, you'll get stuck in it (with your signal on) behind a slower driver while an endless stream of passers won't let you back in the left lane to pass. Remember, these are the people you got over for so they could briefly travel 1 or 2 MPH faster than you were traveling when you were in the left lane.


I personally drive in whatever lane is available to me. I go 10-15 over off the highway and 20 over on the highway. I don't tailgate. And I look out for people zooming up behind me so I can get over for them quickly. But I'm not gonna keep merging right (and ultimately slowing down) so a bunch of other people can act like retards.

for my daily commute there is a HOT lane which I fucking love. For some reason, 99% of the people dont use them, stupid retards. Since my home is in the city and my work is in the burbs I get the really cheap rates. For me to basically have my own lane that I can drive as fast as I want in and dont have to worry about people entering the lane except at certain points its like $0.07 for a 15-20 mile stretch.
