Quote : | "Water has been discovered in the fine-grained soil on the surface of Mars, which could be a useful resource for future human missions to the red planet, according to measurements made by Nasa's Curiosity rover.
Each cubic foot of Martian soil contains around two pints of liquid water, though the molecules are not freely accessible, but rather bound to other minerals in the soil." |

While they've yet to find any organic molecules, I still think this is pretty cool. I'm interested in hearing Smath74 and Wraith's thoughts on this. 9/27/2013 8:23:13 AM

pretty sure they already knew there was water on mars.
unless the frozen water in the polar ice caps wasn't made out of water molecules. 9/27/2013 8:47:27 AM

^ pretty sure this is making news because it is not frozen water. Did you know there was water in the soil? 9/27/2013 8:52:06 AM

It makes Mars that much more likely for permanent habitation by humans . Although that's probably not gonna happen for a long time and Mars is still balls cold all the damn time, you have to start somewhere! 9/27/2013 9:58:19 AM

Yeah i think the only habitable area would be at the equator, and even then i think it only gets up to 65 deg F at the highest. 9/27/2013 10:02:31 AM

^Not necessarily -- subterranean (or I guess submartian would be the correct term?) habitats could be feasible as dirt is an excellent insulator. I'd imagine that due to radiation most early habitats would be subterranean anyway. 9/27/2013 10:05:56 AM

we need to send like 100 people, and they should be from different walks of life. who knows, maybe they will find a way to live to be 220 in earth years
then when our economy collapses from huge companies shitting on the comman man and global warming, the residents of mars will declare their independence, and lots of people will die
also, the kids born on Mars will all be 7 foot tall nymphomaniacs
