they recently are making everyone type in a username and password for microsoft that goes with the account. I made my account in 2002 and no longer have the email that was used nor do i have the alternate email that was used. Every form of recovery ends with them sending the information to one of those emails. The only thing i've updated over the years has been the billing information.

It takes five minutes with customer support to fix this. Maybe more if they want a picture of your ID with your face, or a credit card, whatever.

how many of you have the email address you used when you were a freshman in high school? how many of you still have your ncsu.edu squirrel mail?

I don't understand why all of a sudden they want us to deal with xbox live on the computer. Such an inconvenience.

I hate having to call and deal with answering machines before i can talk to someone.

^^ I've called xbox live support 3 times and always had a live person within 5 minutes.

And the problem isn't having the same email address since high school, it's not updating your email address on your accounts since high school.

You've waste tons of time griping about something you could have fixed with a 10 minute phone call

i didn't want to update my email adress. i dont want their emails. i don't want to login on the computer. all i want to do is play xbl which is what i paid for and have done so without the use of emails for 12 years.

i think doing something one way for 12 years then suddenly changing without notice is "screwing me over"

You never get emails from xbox, unless you explicitly opt-in to receive them. An Xbox is a computer.

And all you have to do to use that service is make a 10 minutes phone call.

In the technology world, I can't think of many things that remained unchanged for 12 years. You should count yourself lucky that you managed to make it this long.

You might want to check if they can text you a code to your phone. I know that is an option now

^^They don't have a phone number

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/contact-us#1:1:1
two of the three options require you to login even if "problems logging in" is the problem you select.

The phone option says it is currently closed even though we are in the hours of operation that follow.

=screwing me over.

well this is a tech talk forum full of people who probably follow @microsoft on twitter and visit the website daily to find out the latest software updates and xbox2 details and read through every press release so no.

I'm just a casual gamer who wanted to game for 1 hour of rare free time after work and instead had to spend that hour going in circles trying to figure out how to log in to a website that i will never visit again.

If no one here is practicle enough to see the silly in that then i am sorry for coming to the wrong place.

Imagine that, googling "xbox support number" lands you with http://support.xbox.com/en-US/contact-us?isChatCallAvailable=false as the second result with a direct phone number.

Which you can call, get to a person and tell them what is happening.

I think you might just be better of ditching the xbox and going back to playing cards.

^^ When I got Arkham City, from placing in the disc in the tray to actually starting the game was about 4 hours.

Installation only took about 10 minutes, but the rest of the time was trying to set up a Live account (that I will never use again) and create a "Gamer Tag" and a bunch of other unbelievably stupid stuff. I could have tolerated it, if it had worked properly. I'm not gonna type out everything that happened again but suffice it to say I feel your pain. If a company is going to impose these onerous restrictions on you, they had damn well be ready to support you 24/7 so that you can enjoy your purchase.

I also have been pleasantly surprised by the speed at which Xbox Live support has handled my account issues.
