That's true. All the people in the world can fit in a medium sized city. You can do a simple calculation to figure out how much area is needed for 7 billion people to stand shoulder to shoulder.

3 sqft x 7 bil = 21 billion sq ft

21 billion sqft divided by 5280^2 =~ 750 sq miles

Ok, that's a large city.

Also, 2 sqft should suffice for the vast majority of the people in the world. That gives 500 sq miles.

Well, Jacksonville, FL is the largest city by area in the united states, at 885 sq miles.

That's 2.47x10^10 square feet. Assume there's no buildings or obstructions, and that you can pack everyone in there with no unused spaces, and give each person 3 square feet to stand in, and you could fit 8.2 billion people into that area.

So there's that.

but even if you could do that, it doesn't mean we're not overpopulated. How much land is needed to grow the food or keep in pasture animals to feed all the people in that tight city area for a lifetime? How many gallons of water needed to adequately bathe and nourish those people? that's insane.
