Best configuration is the cart before the horse. 10/19/2013 11:48:15 PM

(A) speed -because of aerodynamics and drafting (ha ha!) -stability at speed due to less distraction at the sides and less contraptions to keep horses separate -slower horse(s) helped along by whole line; in (B), a slow horse is only helped along by one horse and the other column will need to slow down to compensate
(B) acceleration -less horses in front of rear horse to impede movement off the line. Think of it like 4 cars at a stop light: the rear car in A would be way behind the rear cars in B, assuming equal reaction time and power.
(B) stopping -same reason above, in reverse
(B) handling -shortened team will naturally be more maneuverable through brush, obstacles, and streets -when making turns, the lead horses' movements will transfer faster down the line
(C) nothing -slow horse(s) will fall from the line and mess up the power distribution too much -as per drawing, the horses will gravitate to the middle, causing accidents in short order. realistically, there would be some sort of bar spanning the whole length to which the 4 horses are harnessed
-------------- well that was fun!

OK. Drawing clearly shows a covered wagon, a type of carriage.
