I'm not sure what that means exactly, except that she obviously gets a lot more media exposure nowadays than Spears or Aguilera do. They got plenty of coverage 8-10 years ago.

But does that make her more talented than she otherwise would be? I don't see how that would even factor in. Paris Hilton is pretty media-savvy, and talentless, for example.

her VMA performance was talked about on the NBC Nightly News the day after it happened, for fucks sake. that's absurd

she has absolutely played the media to her benefit and is showing how ridiculous they are in 2013

nothing she has done is wild/crazier than anything any former popstar has done, but the rush to form some kind of judgment as soon as possible has played to her advantage

that and the fact that she isn't as "sexy" as they were. people are more than willing to overlook certain acts as long at the person committing those acts is super attractive

I agree with all of that. But that just seems to be a commentary on the media nowadays, and not whatever talent she does or doesn't have as an 'artist'

To me, her music just seems kinda like manufactured pop music, and she doesn't have a voice that makes you say "wow that girl is talented"

Unless you're in the meetings with her PR team, I don't see how you can say with any confidence that she's in more "control" of her situation than Aguilera or Spears were. Well...maybe more control than "Crazy Britney"...but that chick made all the right moves during her prime. Aguilera has her mishaps as well...but none of them rubbed a giant foam finger on their clitoris on live TV.

She's obviously garnering crazy attention with everything she does now...but I don't think she had to pull the stunts that she did to get that attention. She was already popular as fuck with her bubblegum pop shit...she didn't have to jump to Sluttly McSlutterson just to get the older crowd to take notice.

I'm not completely disagreeing with tgl3...I just think you're giving her a little too much credit. I also still think her AMA performance was a tad off. It's getting the pub because everyone was watching it. She killed it on SNL. After watching those performances and her little Jimmy Fallon bit, I was finally like..."damn...this bitch can sing."

Watched the Jolene video. It's weird that was nearly a year ago. I guess if she stayed with the country route, she wouldn't have ever gotten as much attention as she has now. But country would've been a much better talent showcase for her.

because I've read pieces on her and she gets near-unanimous praise from people she's worked with outside of the music industry? she is 100% in control of her persona, which is way more tongue-in-cheek/let's fucking laugh about how ridiculous all of this is than Spears or Aguilera, who were completely packaged.
