I used to love the Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood sketches. I haven't seen them in awhile so I have no idea if they held up or not.

While we're on the Eddie Murphy years I also enjoyed the sketch where Gumby went on the Letterman show.

One of the best ever

"astronaut jones"

that sketch made a friend of mine buy a guitar so he could play the song

I always got a kick out of Will Forte's anti-Obama guy.

I've never found a video of the skit, but one that I remember came from an episode where Patrick Stewart was the host. It was a skit where Patrick Stewart is the devil and his minions, Spade, Macdonald, and someone else are relentlessly taunting him.

Thanks to the DVD releases I've seen the first 5 years of SNL. IMO you could probably condense the funny moments of the first 5 years down to a 45 minute presentation. I'm sure some of that is the result of me not having a frame of reference for 70s culture.

If they ever release seasons from the Nealon, Hartman, Sandler, Farley, Spade, Carvey years I would buy them up regardless of asking price.

the problem with videos is that they've licensed a lot of stuff to yahoo, but yahoo doesn't give a shit about it, so you can't find anything on yahoo but the once-comprehensive (outside of licensed music) hulu archive is now full of gigantic holes.

example: kings of catchphrase comedy ii does not exist on the internet. kocc iii, which NEVER EVEN AIRED, is everywhere

i'm not going to list twelve sketches and then spend half an hour hunting just to realize only three of them are available

^^^I don't have Hulu, but last year some time, it looked like they had every episode ever.

According to their website, they'll have seasons 6-29 until December 15.

Better get to watching.

^Oh.

It seems that the writers are now creating recurring characters mainly for Weekend Update... which leads me to believe that the writers are either lazy or not that good (Bobby Moynihan's characters are downright horrible).

It's also time for Keenan to go.

The best is that Tarin dude. The blonde chick is a distant second, with the plump chick coming in at third best.

i don't find the plump girl funny, at all.

i find the plump guy (bobby) pretty funny. drunk uncle, snooki, 2nd-hand news reporter, ass dan, slappy pappy are all pretty good, imo

Aidy Bryant is really funny, and is killing this year after not getting much shine all of last season. Girlfriends Talk Show is 100% Aidy Bryant. I think she's embraced being a really funny straight man and it's paying off in screen time.

i disagree, i feel like the only reason she was asked to be on SNL was because they wanted a "plump" girl. she acts the same way in every skit.

That's my point. She's embraced her role and she's really good at it. A large percentage of the great comedic actors in history make hay "acting the same" in every vehicle.

Lunch Lady Land bc Chris Farley and Norm Macdonald with the best snow pea dancing of all time at the 4:14 mark.

http://youtu.be/C1llXHXWqGM

And I can't ever find a video of this one, but Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton sometime after election '96 (I think it was a cold opening) where he thanks everyone who vote for him and it ends up being one guy named Steve somewhere.
