Do any of you people eat liver pudding? My girlfriend thinks it's disgusting and I can't really think of having seen anyone other than my parents and grandparents eat it. The only brand I've eaten in the last few years is Neese's and it is pretty good. Are there other brands I should try? I don't eat it but maybe once a month. What is your preferred method of preparing liver pudding? 12/12/2013 8:49:15 AM

I like it, although I don't eat it very often. Also try scrapple
Preferred method is just slicing it and frying it in a skillet. I eat it with maple syrup over the top.

I LOVE it.
I tend to fry in a skillet, but I have baked it in a toaster oven recently and it turned out just as good I think. I've also been known to just eat it raw. 12/12/2013 8:56:23 AM

It's not pudding in the traditional sense. It's more like a soft sausage.

Fried is the only way I've ever prepared or eaten it. I haven't tried it with maple syrup but that sounds like an awesome combo.
On a similar note, have any of you ever tried blood pudding? I haven't but would like to. 12/12/2013 9:09:04 AM

I don't think I've ever had liver pudding like that. However, I am a fan over Liverwurst/Braunsweiger, make good sandwiches with some pungent swiss and mayo on crusy french bread. 12/12/2013 9:09:40 AM

Eat real food, not commercial garbage.
Buy fresh/frozen raw liver (chicken, beef, lamb, pig, whatever) and cook it. Is that too difficult? 12/12/2013 9:11:58 AM

yes. Its awesome with runny eggs. If you've ever ordered a traditional irish breakfast its part of the dish, they call it black pudding. 12/12/2013 9:17:08 AM

Seriously, if you're into liver and blood pudding, try scrapple. You'll probably have a hard time finding it around here though. I usually have to get my Aunt to bring me some back when she visits PA. I think Neese's makes a scrapple, though.

My dad's mother was from PA and always bitched that the scrapple she found in NC just wasn't the same as PA scrapple. I have eaten it but not since I was little so I don't really remember it. I will look for it but I don't remember seeing it in the grocery store. 12/12/2013 9:33:17 AM

i LOVE Neese's Liver Pudding (we always called it Liver Mush growing up). I usually make it with eggs for breakfast on the weekends. Lately though i've been eating Neese's Hot Sausage more. 12/12/2013 9:53:41 AM

I've run across this stuff at the grocery store, and thought, "My God, who would eat this?"
I guess it depends on what you're raised on...but I'd almost rather eat cat food. the prospect doesn't gross me out any more. 12/12/2013 1:52:55 PM

Are you sure it was chicken liver? Chicken hearts, gizzards, and kidneys are rubbery. And so is lamb liver.
But chicken liver has a pate type (but a bit firmer) consistency. Once cooked, you can even spread them on bread, they are that soft and they become a paste that easily.

I had lamb tongue recently, and I liked it. Lamb liver is also nice, but completely different from chicken liver. Love chicken hearts, gizzards, and spleens. (spleen is almost like liver in taste and consistency)
I also had bull testicle ages ago, and it had a firm texture, and rubbery I guess. Can't really remember the taste, it was a very long time ago.
Liver is one of nature's most nutritious foods.
The best? Lamb brains!!! AMAZING, hmmm.... And super healthy. (PAKCED with omega-3, which is where omega-3 is found in the first place and why we need it)

It is not about cool or not cool. I am not a sheep, unlike apparently many of you. I eat organ meats because I love the taste, and also because they are healthy. Even then, I only have organ meats a few times a year. If I weren't so lazy, I would have them regularly.
But if you want to talk about being cool, it is actually cool to eat/use the whole animal, and not to waste any of it, as much as possible. It takes a shit load of water and energy to raise animals. I also care about the planet, so that's another reason for eating them, albeit, not the primary reason.
You little ones running around saying it is gross, this is a modern thing. Up until 30-40 years ago, organ meats were common in the West. And in the rest of the world, they still eat them all the damn time, and use the inedible parts as well for various things. Now that's cool.

Fried liver pudding sandwiches are a thing of greatness. My Mom used to make those all the time, same way you might prepare a braunschweiger (liverwurst) sandwich.
Blood pudding and blood sausage--all around great stuff. Hard to find blood products in the U.S. because of FDA regulations. I got hooked on black pudding in the UK and it can be hard to find or make here. Some farmers will sell you pigs blood at the farmers market, but you have to arrange it ahead of time.
I haven't tried scrapple yet just because I rarely see it in the store. I'll probably love it. 12/12/2013 2:43:37 PM

i was watching a program about some guy who lives with wolves and acts as the pack leader... well whenever he would bring game back to the wolfpack, he would always reserve the liver to eat himself because supposedly it was the most sought after part. (he would cook it and then put it back ) 12/12/2013 3:37:32 PM
