So I'm reading trending twitter topics about feminism/social justice and really trying to soak in some white shame. #BlackPowerYellowPeril is a thing, seriously. Simultaneously feeling self hatred, total confusion, not being welcome in a discussion, etc. Much feels.
The thing that kills me is, everyone wants to invent a hierarchy of privilege and bitch about being on a lower rung than the next guy.
-White feminists are bitching about lack of unity http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/adele-tomlin/white-feminism_b_4477351.html
-Everyone else is bitching about white feminists supporting white supremacy
-Black feminists are demanding that asian feminists declare they have more privilege before starting a discussion. Survey says: asian feminists are refusing. https://twitter.com/suey_park/status/416259326429245440
-South asian feminists are upset because they identify more with the color brown than yellow.
One thing I've noticed about myself and others: people are convinced, at a fundamental/structural level, that it's impossible for them to be racist/sexist/privileged... it's got to be someone else responsible.
Ok, sorry, going back to washing in the white guilt thing.
