Anybody have a child with this? My dad got one for my 3.5 yr old son, and the apps are crazy expesive. Anybody have any they aren't using anymore, or know where to get some for free?

Buy a kindle fire, esp an older one
Use the /kid mode/ app they added, called free time, It locks down the whole tablet, even through reboots, and has its own lock screen.

Get free android apps, or subscribe to the free time unlimited streaming service, which is basically a pay per month pass for kid shows/apps, etc

We did the last gen Fire HD for our kids.

They are loving using it

Have not started using out freetime unlimited yet, as the 10 year old is too old to want to use most of their games, and the 2 year old is still chilling with his drum set app.

Yeah after BobbyDigital's response to me in the parenting thread plus online reviews, I think we are going to return the innotab. We have a first generation iPad, and have used that on long road trips (like today!) by buying an episode of his favorite kid shows before going. Had also downloaded a few learning apps and games already. We've decided to return it and use the money toward more apps for him.

Leap pad review were much better than innotab though.

My 3.5 yr old got a leap writer for Xmas, luckily with plenty of books. It seems a little ahead of where he is now (says 4-8 for most books). He uses an iPad a lot which I like using to get the free video/learning apps.

I think the Leap Pad (aside from cost) could still be a good choice. Hopefully you can get some second hand apps!

Our 6 yr old has a first generation leap pad with the games that go in the back. She used it a lot for the first year or so, but now she'd rather play on our Kindles.
