It was probably the last show I saw pre-9/11, which was Yngwie Malmsteen and Lizzy Borden at Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, March 23, 2001. Malmsteen headlined and was amazing, but we had no idea about Lizzy Borden. That band stole the show. 1/20/2014 6:50:36 AM |

There are some that come immediately to mind, though I may be overlooking some from 10+ yrs ago.
-Weezer at Tremont in Charlotte, January '97 -Jimmy Eat World at Terminal 5, NYC Winter '07 -Muse @ PNC back in 2010, GA seats up front helped with that one -Billy Joel @ MSG in 2007, his 12th of 12 sold out shows in a row there. 1/20/2014 9:05:48 AM |

If I pull off the top of my head the first 5 that came to mind:
-The Dillinger Escape Plan @ The Brewery (2009) -Between the Buried and Me - Silent Circus CD release show (2003) -Beloved farewell show (2005) -Smashing Pumpkins reunion @ Orange Peel (2007) -The Mars Volta - 2008
There are tons of others that were awesome and some I would consider replacing the ones I just listed but I went with my gut there. 1/20/2014 9:24:34 AM |

I've seen just about every one of my favorite bands at one point or another in my life, top three to me were:
-George Thorogood and the Destroyers at some opera house in Orlando Florida, probably around 2006-07 over Spring Break. I went in not expecting much, but he was absolutely amazing
-Long Beach Dub Allstars at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC around 2000. I dont remember much about the actual show, but I did get to go backstage and drink beer/smoke weed with two of the original members of Sublime.
-Millencolin and Pennywise at The Nation in DC, somewhere around 1998-99. Met and chatted with the lead singer of Millencolin before the show. 1/20/2014 10:05:25 AM |

I was at one of these too. I was kind of disappointed. Billy was pissed half of the show because his amps were messing up. He stopped in the middle of songs numerous times to complain. He also played a lot of obscure stuff that wasn't on their studio albums.

I don't know off the top of my head, but some of them would've had to have been at the Cradle. Last 3 shows I saw recently though were Doobie Brothers, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Hall & Oates, all at about a 750 seat venue in Charlotte. Those were pretty quality. 1/20/2014 11:55:03 PM |

GWAR concert is certainly among the most memorable since it was in a very small venue. Anthrax probably had the best energy in the crowd for me. 1/21/2014 12:04:05 AM |

Don't remember the dates but:
Third Eye Blind ~2010 Raleigh Interpol ~2011 Raleigh Bon Iver ~2012 Dallas Pearl Jam 2013 Dallas
Pearl Jam would be by far number one if we weren't in the nose bleeds, takes away from the show too much. Third Eye Blind was a great show, awesome energy, played all the hits, really small venue. Interpol was another small venue and they absolutely killed it, played all the hits like it was the first time they played them, awful acoustics in the venue though. Bon Iver was a total surprise, I am still not really into them but the live performance they put on is incredible and their album doesn't come close to doing it justice. My wife had to drag me to that one and I was blown away.
I would love to see some big shows like Tool, Deftones, etc but I can never seem to make it happen. Also, I REALLY prefer small venues, just such a better atmosphere. 1/21/2014 8:38:52 AM |

No. 1 for me is still the Foo Fighters at Fillmore Charlotte in 2012. from the concert thread...
Quote : | "holy shit, last night's Foo Fighters show in Charlotte was 3 and half hours of unrelenting rock. Probably the smallest venue FF has played in a decade, which they acknowledged, and they seemed to really enjoy it. The crowd was interesting, but had good energy and the band fed off of it. They kicked off right around 9:15 and broke set around 11:05. Their "encore" started about 11:20 and lasted over an hour finally finishing up with Everlong around 12:35.
I haven't seen FF live in probably 10 years, that show still being a top 10 for me, but this one blew it out of the water." |
35 song set list that ranged from early Foo unreleased demos to the fan favorites and all points in between.

1) Metallica - Summer Sanitarium in Rockingham...first time I'd seen them, thunderstorm broke out mid show and there was lightning in the distance behind the stage
2) Rage Against the Machine - Rock the Bells in NYC - felt like I'd been waiting my whole life to see them 1/21/2014 11:40:25 AM |

I was at the Metallica Rockingham show too. Was my first time seeing them as well. I would have listed that one but I enjoyed the Orion Festival more. Specifically the night they played RTL all the way through. The other night they played Black album all the way through. 1/21/2014 1:54:02 PM |

I was there...I've seen them so many times now it's difficult to pick later ones as favorites as they don't have as much of an impact as my first one. Also I stayed in the worst hotel in the world that night.
