After drinking beers before/during the game, eating a ton of food, and not drinking much water, I woke up in the middle of the night last night and had to go to the bathroom. As I was standing there, I felt like I was going to have to puke. It felt a little different than usual, and soon after a "wave" came over me and I started to fall to the ground. I tried grabbing the sink, toilet, etc, but didn't have the strength or awareness to stop my fall. I remember lying face up on the bathroom floor unable to really move. 30-60 seconds later I was able to roll over and get up and head to my bed. As I got closer to the bed it happened again. I know I was totally parched when I woke up, so I'm thinking maybe dehydration had something to do with it. Maybe its AIDS?

Diabeetus

Quote :
"The main symptoms of hyperglycemia are increased thirst and a frequent need to urinate. Other symptoms that can occur with hyperglycemia are headaches, tiredness, blurred vision, hunger, and trouble with thinking or concentrating. Severely elevated glucose levels can result in a medical emergency ("diabetic coma")."

hmm almost exactly the same thing happened to me about a year ago. except i was washing dishes and boiling some water to make some mac and cheese on the stove. i felt really sick to my stomach all of the sudden so i went to turn the stove off since i wasn't hungry anymore. then i went to grab a can of mtn. dew out of the fridge because i thought maybe i just needed to drink something...next thing i know im looking up at the ceiling with a smashed soda can next to me. i don't think i was passed out for very long because the water on the stove was still hot. i just laid down and it never happened again so who knows what caused it.

If it was diabetes would it just correct itself no problem? I didn't eat or drink anything but a little water, and went right back to sleep. No problems today.

it sounds like a warning sign of Type II diabetes, and if so you should take it as a wakeup call to be careful with alcohol and garbage food. Whether it goes away or gets worse is up to you.

^^If its the beginning of diabetes it can.

For a car analogy think of your shocks. Type 2 diabetes begins as an underdamped spring; your body can still self-correct but the swings are really big.

You had a ton of carbs so your blood sugar would have been high, at some point in the night you get the opposite end of the swing as your blood sugar is very low. I wouldn't be surprised if you woke up in a nightmare or cold sweat, your body's response to low blood sugar is to start pumping adrenaline.

I have no idea of that's it or not, but could be. It sounds similar to my symptoms before I was diagnosed.

This happened to me once in the shower after a late night. I slowly started to pass out but could not fall cuz my shower was only like 3 feet wide. Once I got out I sat on the bed and drank a ton of water.

It was from drinking way too much.

If you have any kind of pain/discomfort/symptom within 24-48 hours of heavy drinking, it's 99.99% likely to be just the alcohol throwing your body into chaos.

This happened to me when I was playing kickball in college with a bunch of friends. Went to the student health center. They told me it was "probably just dehydration". Hasn't happened again.

If it were diabetes, could a doctor detect it in testing if its in such an early stage?

Yes. They will require you to fast, then do a blood test. The results will either tell the doctor you are at risk (and can control with diet), or are full blown diabeetus

haha don't let them freak you out man. Most likely you were just severely dehydrated and had a drop in your blood pressure. Also called vasovagal syncope. That being said if you have any other symptoms go see a doc.

The dude is concerned, its a simple test. I had a blood panel done for a1c (diabeetus test), and cholesterol and shit. It was 40$ going through a doctor, before insurance knocked it down.

Add to that, that I believe the affordable care act made diagnostics like this free for the patient, they aren't allowed to charge you a co-pay.

It won't hurt, unless you're a pussy and hate needles, and it may catch something before it becomes a bigger problem.
