Forwarding an ongoing email response that contains something offensive buried deeper in the chain of responses, that the person finds.

^^^Newest version of Outlook scans for any reference to an "attachment" or "attached" and related terms in body text and prompts you before sending if you forget. Been helpful a few times.

i know a guy who was sick of all the charity fundraisers going on in his office. When he got another department e-mail asking for donations for another event, he meant to pick out one of his friends in the department to send an e-mail saying "here comes the guilt." he replied all.

ive asked pretty harmless questions before, and it gets forwarded to all relevant parties...

then when i finally have my answer it comes in the form of a forwarded email that contains all the earlier responses.

buried about halfway down are some very unprofessional comments at my expense.

Coworker emailed our director and BCCed the rest of us. She was critiquing a new sales process or something. I didn't see BCC and assumed it was simply a CC. So I replied all with my comments. She panicked and ran to my desk asking why I did that...

I completed shredded this plan that was being pushed by some people who far outranked me. It was pretty brutal and not especially tactful. they were trying to do something stupid, because they didn't really understand it (electronic warfare), and my job was to be an electronic warfare expert for USCENTCOM and coordinate current EW operations in theater.

I wasn't really getting them to see things my way, so I totally demolished what they were pushing on an email to pretty much every other power that be within chain of command, without them included on the emails. It was a complete success in that I shot down a completely harebrained zillion dollar project that would have caused far more problems than it solved-I killed it before they ever sent a single one overseas, too. The problem is that some fucking dunce ended up forwarding the rather long email chain discussion without reading (or remembering) the bombastic thrashing towards the bottom before I had won everyone to my side--and they then included the originally unincluded people, haha.

Nothing really came of it; they outranked me by a lot, but it was clear that they were both wrong and obstinate. I looked like a real asshole, though.

I tried the pleading in all caps "PLEASE DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY OR PURPOSEFULLY FORWARD WHAT FOLLOWS NEXT:"

in emails and it just doesn't matter. So I've resorted lately to just telling people to call me if they want details about something.

I'm fully expecting this plan of attack to fail as well and I'm just going to be forced to telling people straight up how their fuck-up cost us time and money and there is no nice way for me to communicate it that doesn't make them look like a failure.

You are all basically terrible at e-mail. Write every fucking e-mail as if anyone on Earth could be reading it, because anyone on Earth could be reading it. And they get e-mail in space, too.

My biggest e-mail blunder is sending an e-mail when I could have picked up the phone.

this woman in another US office was getting into a 'heated' argument about ordering stuff before it runs out and not to just take the last of something, blah blah blah.....

she sent it to the entire company, international, CEO and all. She later sent out an apology for those who received it, which was 100% of anyone who works here.

I laughed, briefly. I am also not a nice person.

Subject: Farewell and QUEEN BEY ALL DAY!

Hello XXXXXX Team,

After careful consideration, I will be ending my employment with PwC effective Monday, November 11th.

I've done two audit internships, one at Deloitte and one at PwC. I hated it then but I thought I'd give it a third try. Third time's a charm right? GTFOH(If you don't know what it means Google it!) Basically, my time here as an associate has confirmed everything I already knew ten times over. Auditing is a job for people who truly don't have any other options and don't know what else they could be doing. You work day in and day out pulling useless documentation and filling out useless workpapers that won't really benefit anybody. All of it is BS! After asking dozens upon dozens of auditors what they think of their jobs and getting responses that include "I love my job!" or "I wouldn't trade it for the world," I realized just how fake auditors can be.

I strongly believe that auditors hate their lives and try to rationalize every piece of it. "Oh it's just busy season" or "If everybody did the jobs they loved to do then there would be nobody doing the jobs that need to be done." Measley excuses to justify pursuing a useless, meaningless career....

Here are some tips and pointers I thought I'd share for all of you to use through out life, you'll need it. I also throw some tips in there that you can take back to the next XXXXXX Team Meeting or just any meeting where real people's suggestions can be heard. Maybe a board meeting of some sort with some really important partners, because they're so important right? (side eye)

I figure I would use the assistance of Twitter hashtags....y'all like those right?

Auditing is for the birds, get a real career that has meaning #dontbeFAKEaboutitbeABOUTit
Those coach and partner "relationships" or "meetings"....whatever you want to call them....Just stop. #thatishissoawkward #icantdeal #soforced #fakeconvosforfakeauditors #noidontwanttogazeintoyoureyesatatablefortwo #waytoointimateformytaste
Let's keep it real, partners are treated as if they're royalty. The reality is, THEY'RE NOT! They are average Joe's like you and I, only their pockets are a little bigger. So, there is no need to wait at the partner's feet acting like you'll do any and everything to please them. For what? No need to come in early just to greet the partner on the job. No need to act like you're such an overachiever by doing all of these unnecessary things. If you're an overachiever, be a real one..not a phony. No need to wait until the partner leaves during busy season only to leave 20 minutes later. Your time is just as valuable, are the partners God? I don't think so...#don'tbeasellout #thepartnerisgoinghometoeathisorherwarmsupper #whileyouarefakeauditng #weallknownooneisproductiveafterabout7pm #gohomeandcuddleupwithyourkids #ohandspousestoo #isntthatwhatthepartnersaredoing? #ohwellsIdigress
Trying to get all in people's business...STOP! Everybody isn't an open book and I'm not the type to give you my life story within five minutes as a lot of you in public accounting do. #mindyourbusiness #keepthosenoseyquestionstoyourself #noneofyourbeeswax
XXXXXX, you're fake important and you stink. I've peeped your game...constantly trying to throw me under the bus. You talk too much about everyone and how much you're so stressed out on all of your clients ...everyday we suffer from hearing this ish as well as listening to your countless stories about your girlfriend. You're such a gossiper that sometimes I think you're more feminine then you appear. Who does that? You're a grown man, get your life! #somethingtotakebacktomizzy #f*outtahere #yourlifesucksandyouclearlyknowit #somethingtotakebacktotheteam? #chattycathy #femininemuch? #someoneneedstheirvagwaxed #ohwaityoudonthaveone
P.s. XXXXXX, I can give two shits about your animals, maids, brother, etc. Is your life really that boring? Never seen people so in love with animals in life. #ewwnotcomingovertoyourplace #probsmellslikefecesandthrowup #couchesprobtornup #ohletmeguesstheysleepinyourbed #absolutelydisgusting | Get some friends to tell your business to. #ohwaitdrakesaidnonewfriends #maybeyouneedjesusinstead #yourvisionofyourselfisskewed #takeyourselfdownacoupleofnotches #youhavenotarrivedimsorry #crownforthequeenbey #ohandbythewaycelinedioncannottouchbey #beyhivebitches
XXXXXX, I saw you yesterday giving me the side eye. I think those eyeballs need some readjusting. Girl, stop! Don't play into XXXXXX's episodes. Just because both of you feel the need to give your whole life story doesn't mean other people will feel that way. Have your own opinions and ideas. #I'msorrybutnotsorry #dontbeafollower #thoseeyeballswerestaringtoohardforcomfort #goodluckonyourmiserablecrapofacareeratpwc #saygoodbyetoyoursociallife #butifyoudecidetoleaveyoucantwerkoutwiththerestofus #twerkmileymileytwerk
XXXXXX, where do I start? You hate yourself and your job, let's be honest. Your cat doesn't care about you so stop caring about it. Stories about your nasty cat are unbearable. Seriously, I can't even deal. Beyond gross! You're fake ratchet! I hear you giving weird remarks that are borderline weird....I can definitely hear the twang in your voice. Just be you! Most of all, these are the top 10 reasons Baddie Bey(Beyonce) will kill Britney Spears (she's a has been) any day.

1.Beyonce can sing and dance live without lip singing and do it well. She doesn't need autotune or a background track to make her the Queen. All she needs is a mic, some heels, and her fabulous Brazilian and Malaysian wig to swing around. Can't say the same for Britt. Sorry girl!
2.Beyonce has much more class.

3.Beyonce's music transcends culture. Britt....uh....well, that stopped a few world tours ago.

4.Beyonce has continued to get better and better over time. Her vocals are stronger than ever. Not to mention, after popping out Baby Blue she was back at it. She didn't get all washed up and boring like Britt did.

5.Beyonce is on some presidential ish. Didn't you watch President Obama and First Lady Michelle's first dance? Or the inauguration performance? Haven't you kept up with the Let's Move campaign (Bey and First Lady Michelle's initiative to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity? ) Well, Bey has been on! Britt has stayed in the shadows. #sorrybutnotsorry #getyourlife

6.Beyonce killed the Superbowl half time show solo dolo. Britt and NSYNC did that back in the 90s...but that was the 90s...and she wasn't solo dolo...so Bey wins!

7.Beyonce can dance her butt off. She has rythym. Britt used to be able to ...but she is stiff now. I'm sorry..

8.Beyonce has stage presence. I don't think you know what that is but you can Google it. It's basically something Britt doesn't have.

9.Beyonce is the QUEEN. She is the best performer alive. Bottom line, no gimmicks!

10 . Beyonce wins and now that I'm out of here, I win too!!! #doingtheharlemshakeasitype

There was one where a huge list of people kept replying all and when my buddy did it I replied to his email calling him out on being a douche by replying all. I specifically pressed reply and not reply all but apparently the reason so many people were replying all is the distribution list was messed up and if anyone replied it went to the group. My email went to the group as well

My favorites are when there is a giant distro where everyone keeps replying all to say stop replying all. I love it when those things happen, people always get so pissed.

not any horror....

but, a coworker and I were discussing the presence of phallic statues & stuff from around the world one day after someone had told some crude jokes in our department. He had butchered the name of one of them (some land art crop circle type of shit?), so of course after the discussion I searched and after some quick googling found the name. So... I typed up an email with the name in the subject line, and the same name in the body of the email and sent it.

he never responded.

a few days later, someone whose email was similar to my coworkers emailed me back with a "what is this?" response..

[in outlook I always hit the first two letters of someone's email, then hit tab and keep on trucking... since their first two letters were the same I didn't catch it]

I work for a good-sized university. One day, an email went out to everyone announcing an upcoming lecture given by a guy pretty prominent in town and across the state in his profession, whose wife happened to work on campus.

Instead of forwarding the message to her friend/colleague, a coworker replied to the whole university: "You Juan to go? Let's see what the chump has to say."

That was uncomfortable. But I hear all parties involved laughed about it and moved on.

my fiance has a very common name, therefore there are 5 or 6 contacts with the same first name .... I have learned the hard way, double checking is not sufficient, MUST TRIPLE CHECK the "to:"

somewhat mild yet embarassing things have been said that were only meant for my fiance and later come to find out he never got an email from me that day and then my stomach drops searching my sent folder for who it went to

Maybe 6 years ago I sent an email to a handful of friends at the office that went sort of like this....

"it's Friday!!! Wooohooo get fucked up!!!! Blahgggg!!!!"

I accidentally added some guy in the Amsterdam office I didn't know. I had a panic for 20min but then he emailed back saying he was sad he could not drink with us. Oh Europeans.

Do people still actually do this? I haven't seen one of those in probably 5 years.

^On the subject of mail not meant for you, I am constantly getting shit meant for other people in my gmail account, which is a common format (firstname.lastname). I seriously think there is one guy in South Africa who didn't know his own email for a while--I get all sorts of business-oriented shit addressed to him. Invoices...new product announcements...parts listings...catalogs...loan authorizations...they've been coming to my gmail account for a couple years now, and repeated "Hey I live 5000 miles away" or "please take me off this list" do nothing. His motorcycle and ATV dealership seems to be doing a brisk business though.

It's not just keeping this stuff out of e-mail. I don't verbalize anything negative or controversial at all.

That type of thing is communicated with knowing glances and half-smiles.

our listservs at work allowed for anyone on the listserv to be able to send to the listserv. my boss sent out an announcement about a promotion for a colleague to everyone that works on our three campuses and the reply-alls on that email went for about 3 days.

luckily it was all nice stuff - people at my school can be real lovely people.
