Aw, I'm sad big lots closed. I used to frequent there when I was a poor college kid. I got called a cunt by a tranny there. And another time I had to wait in line while the cashier explained to grandma why she couldn't return the half eaten cat treats, even though her cat didn't like them.

I thought the roses thing was a joke. I last time went to a roses was when I was just a wee lad, just before most of them closed down. They were still selling Sega Saturn's.

There is also a Roses in Cary on Buck Jones Rd across from the bowling alley. Funny that they would put them so close together...

The three people that like Roses in this thread is the most approval for the store I've ever seen. I wasn't aware that Roses existed anywhere but in an 80s time-loop.

I was not a discriminating child, and even I knew something wasn't quite right about that place behind Crabtree. K-Mart and Wal-Mart had already taken over by then so Roses was just confusing.

I kinda remember the one in Washington Square Mall, before they made it a strip mall. Didnt see another one for years, until we stumbled across one in Morehead.

There was, at least until 2012, a Roses just down the street from Southpoint in Durham. Homestead Market at Fayetteville & 54. And the inside of that store was straight out of the 80's, wood-paneled walls and everything. Looked like it was cut from the same cloth as the Western Blvd. K-Mart except much, much smaller. There was also one in University Mall in Chapel Hill. Though I, too, am quite surprised they're actually building new ones. The one in Durham always seemed to be on the brink of closing (they were running an "INVENTORY REDUCTION CLEARANCE" or somesuch for at least a year straight).

Brendle's was a good store. I can remember the one in Wilmington well. It has been Dick's sporting goods for a good many years now. From what I read, the Rose's now aren't the Rose's of the past. That used to be the place to buy ammo. The one in Hanover Center that is now a Stein Mart used to have great prices on about any ammunition you wanted. I think that's where Sears was before Independence Mall was built. Speaking of Independence Mall, it was much cooler at one time. As a teenager, I would spend about 300 dollars of my tobacco money to buy school clothes, and that was where I went. I spent some on guns, etc... and put the rest in the bank. The money I saved those summers is how I got through college. If tobacco yielded the kind of profit it did in the 90's, I'd be buying equipment and planting as much as I could. If the talk I'm hearing is true, I may consider it down the road.
