in your social circle? When did you begin to discuss it and admit to it?

I think it was around 10th grade for me. (I started jerking off in 5th grade or thereabouts.) Even in 8th or even 9th grade, people still spoke of masturbation as if it were disgusting or abnormal.

Also, I wonder how this varies with women. I have an ex who, at the age of 24, had never discussed masturbation with her 19-year-old sister.

also, my best friend in elementary/early middle school talked about masturbation all the time with his brother...actually it was his brother that got us started on talking about it, and racing for our first wet dream. but nobody else my age was cool discussing it.

Interesting...I've heard of this phenomenon before, but never knew the proper name for it.

I don't think my friend and his brother were actively discussing masturbation techniques or anything. But the brother was always talking about wanking with his friends, so since it was his go-to conversation topic, we heard a lot about it too. One time he even jerked off in the same room with us (under the covers.) But the whole dynamic had more a "big brother initiates little brother" flavor than anything sexual.

Maybe big sisters don't feel the need to initiate their kid sisters into sex, or want to preserve their innocence...I dunno.

i think when girls are young, masturbation is kinda a grey zone, and they may do it without really being aware of what they are doing, unlike you kids that were influenced by an older boy.
a lot of young girls just hump their pillows or squeeze their legs together without really knowing what they are doing.

Freshman year in college. In high school I heard people say, on more than one occasion, "That's gross, I would never do that" with a facial expression that clearly said they had done it within the last half hour. The dorm did not have time for that bullshit. You still didn't want to be caught doing it, but you could acknowledge it as a thing that was done.
