Several years ago, I lived in a townhouse with my at the time girlfriend and two of our friends. Our roommate saw my (at the time) girlfriend move out our bed with the help of her parents (taking it to the beach unbeknownst to our roommate) while at the same time the girlfriend had a bag of clothes to take for donation (destination also unknown to the roommate). In a panic, our roommate called me at work and asked if everything was okay. I took the opportunity to tell her that actually the girlfriend and I were breaking up and that she was going through with moving to Nashville, TN. . . . several days later, I invited our roommate to come and sit on our brand new bed.


A few years before that, I had someone at work call the same at the time girlfriend and tell her and her dormmates that the apartment they had been on a list for had actually been re-leased to the current occupants. That one got three people at once!

the best april fools prank i've seen, though, was when some of my friends in college produced a fake letter from selective service to inform another friend that he'd been drafted (this was during OIF when a couple of Congressmen were talking about instituting the draft as political theater, and some people were actually believing it). They mailed him the letter a couple of days prior so that it arrived on the first of April.
