The fact is they were Bundy supporters, even if eventually kicked off. Their ideology overlaps with many of the people that were there. This notion by many at the ranch (including Cliven Bundy), that the county sheriff is an ultimate authority is often something attributed to white supremacist groups as one example. The overall ideology overlaps into at least some of the Tea Party and in this case the shooters had Gadsden flags.

You're ignoring the underlying meaning of saying the two groups "have ties". If I kick someone off my property it's a pretty good bet that I want nothing to do with them or their agenda. Implying that our ideologies are somehow linked after I have made a show of kicking them off my property and telling them not to return is insulting IMHO. It seems that the Bundy people wanted nothing to do with these guys which is the exact opposite of what is implied when someone says that these two groups have ties to one another.

So much for "good guys with guns" being a sound philosophy. The only people they killed were the good guys with guns (cops and a concealed carrier). It doesn't really help to have a gun if you're ambushed, which is, you know, how most shooting sprees go.
