Happens pretty much daily or more. Cops love to shoot dogs.

For the record, I am a cop and I love dogs. I explained this in some other thread. Not every cop hates and wants to shoot a dog.

I have never shot, tazed, or even pepper sprayed a dog. In fact, I am probably stupidly over friendly with strange dogs. I would honestly wait until it was chomping on my leg before I shot it. I love dogs, and despise animal abuse of any kind.

Nobody has argued that that every cop wants to shoot dogs.

But every profession has its 10%...and in your case, your 10% still has a shitload of power over the lives of people, and dogs, whereas our 10% might fuck up your wireless plan or cause your phone charger to fail before it should.

And dog owners have almost no recourse if their dog is shot, in almost every situation it's entirely up to the LEO if it was justified and the owner can't do anything about it.

I've had a cop threaten to shoot dogs that I've owned in the past. Its not that the dog was being aggressive or anything... The cop just wanted me to tell him information that didn't exist.

I thought that was just a freak occurrence until afterwards talking to other people. Now I think some cops use that as a persuasion tool. Why? Because they fucking can, that's why.
