Ok, so we started potty training our two year old girl this past weekend, and so far she has been a trooper. No #1 accidents for the past two or three days, even at night. Although we are having trouble getting her to poop in the potty. Part of it might be she is a bit constipated, but has anyone had experience with this?
we are incredibly proud of her and how fast she has picked this up (bribery is key mostly here) but the poop thing is still a work in progress. I know it's been less than a week, but any poop advice would be greatly appreciated! (she poops in the toilet maybe 1/3 of the time as is)

spank her and rub her nose in it when she goes somewhere other than the potty. worked for my dogs on getting them to go outside.

Pooping is the hardest part of potty training for lots of kids. I've known more than one 3+ year old that stayed in underwear all day but got their own pull up and put it on themselves so they could poop. Sitting isn't a natural way to poop so my guess is it feels weird and probably even hurts. They prefer to squat or stand. For the constipation prunes, pears, apricots, pumpkin.

well we have a seat to go on the toilet and also a shorter amish built toddler toilet that puts her in a more natural stance... she is doing really well with pee pee but just had another poop accident. when it happens she gets embarrassed but i tell her next time we will get it right... then i sit her on the toilet and put the poop in it and we flush and say "bye bye poop!"

i'm confident she will get the hang of it sooner or later!

We had great success with our boy and potty training. We did the cold turkey method, talked up the big boy undies and picked a slow weekend to stay home. He had like 3 accidents the first day and that was enough for him, it took almost immediately. 2nd day had one small accident, 3rd day and ever since, he's been good to go. He never had a poop accident while learning. Maybe one or two randomly a couple months later. We started off sitting for him, he was more patient that way.

We'll be crossing this bridge with a girl in ~2 yrs. I've heard girls are easier, is that the concensus?

Don't try and force them by saying "do you have to poop?" every 10 minutes or before you leave to go somewhere

And yes, based on my experience, girls are much easier than boys to potty train.

My dad claims my sister and I were both potty trained at 18 months using his method of going commando. Basically one or two accidents and we were good to go. My sister did the same with my niece and it worked for her as well.

We did sitting first. We've had him peeing seeing down on a small potty (the attachment on our standard plus a stool still weirds him out) every night since he was almost two before bed. It's been the other times during the day that were difficult.

We added before nap a couple months ago, then started noticing some mornings his diaper would be dry so we then added once he woke up. My mom has been really successful in getting him to use it while wearing a pull up, but he would always protest with us. Justin (my husband, not you; heh) was the first to put him in underwear and just start asking. She's nervous about him in underwear and having an accident, but is (hopefully) going to get on board with it soon.

Today so far we have had three success and one accident, but he hasn't pooped yet. We award two skittles for a pee and keep telling him he'll get 5 if he poops. Justin has off all week, so we're really going to push the training this week. We'll do naked days if we have to which I've heard from some parents that world well for them. Starting to feel the pressure bc he has to be potty trained before preschool starts back in Sept. But I think he'll get there.

I guess I do have tips now that I think about it

madelyn just had her first pee accident in over a week. she had a lot to drink though today (trying to soften her poop some more) she is still doing really well.

Do your neighbors a favor and make sure she uses swim-type diapers in the community pool. There was an "accident" in the pool tonight and they have to shut our pool down until next tuesday. ARGGGH.

Kids don't need to be crapping in the pool...but why is it shut down for two days for it? That seems over the top.

well yeah that's a given.

but why would the pool be shut down that much? i was at optimist pool a couple summers ago and some kid made a "code brown" and they just roped off that side of the pool for a few minutes, scooped it out, and then let people back in. i think they added some chlorine too.

the past two days have been hell. she spend the night with my mom saturday night and it we have had almost complete regression after an almost flawless week. she will not be staying with my mom again until she is completely trained.

The person that you need to train is yourself (to getting used to cleaning up shit without making a big deal out of it.)

When the kid is ready (old enough to be interested in going, and not like having shit in their pants), just throw out all the diapers and don't make a big deal out of accidents. Clean them up and move on. "We'll try to remember next time right?" Heavy rewards and encouragement when going potty and remember to make regular trips 30 minutes after meals and throughout the day.

MAYBE use pullups at night at first but cut that shit out ASAP.

A month of that and they'll be going by themselves, but accidents still happen occasionally and even my 6 year old sometimes doesn't do the best job cleaning herself. Cleaning shit out of underwear is part of your life now.

we have made a lot of progress this week... so far she has not had any pee accidents today (knock on wood)... still working on the poop, but she is at least aware of it and tries on the toilet... just not successful every time yet.

I think we're going to try a 3 day toilet training boot camp with our 18 month old daughter.

one of the biggest keys to potty training is communications... your kid has to be able to communicate with you verbally (and otherwise) when they need to go, and they need to understand you when you explain (in simple terms) toilet concepts.

This kid is so embarrassed to poop on the potty. we've had two successes. He doesn't tell us he has to poop; he tells us he wants a diaper.

Well this kid just waited until nap time when he still wears a diaper to poop.

My son had no pee accidents for months but refused to poop on the potty no matter what. WE ended up ignoring it and he just did it like 6 months later with a baby sitter. After he did it the 1st time, he never pooped his pants again.

We are now night training him. He is actually doing pretty well.

My two year old daughter I think is ready, but since she is in day care we all have to be on the same page and I was going to wait until after everything settled back down in my house.

Nephew turned 4 this month. He doesnt want to poop in toliet. He tells us after and runs to bathroom. It is to late almost always. He also holds it in so it hurts/bleeds a bit when he has to so I think he associates pain with it. Tried prum juice cause when he does go just half a golf ball size. That was a mistake he shat all over the house. At least not constipated briefly. Now though back to rarily going/hurts when goes/slight bleeding/small poop.
