I was with my brother when we hit a guy so hard it knocked him out of his shoes. Also loosened his teeth, horse-shoed the front of our truck and impacted him hard enough for him to shit his pants like a shotgun blast. He was wearing slacks and there was poo on his shoes

Went home from the hospital less than 24hrs later

Not surprising given that section of road. I've had people walk out in front of me there, wearing dark clothes, NOT even looking at oncoming traffic before entering the road, and then not even looking my way when I slam on the brakes and blare the horn at them. The low income/homeless that frequent that area really don't give a fuck.

The people walking don't seem to give a fuck, the people driving up and down that road trying to make stop lights don't give a fuck (including myself in that group btw), the city of Raleigh doesn't give a fuck either. There is barely any walking infrastructure in that area even though it probably is one of the larger walking population in raleigh. I'm kinda amazed this doesn't happen more often.

^I am too. Ridiculous that there isn't a SINGLE crosswalk anywhere on that road, from downtown till the northern part of Garner (and probably further but I wouldn't know). My neighborhood, Ren Park, has been trying to get the city to make that street more ped friendly. I believe there are plans to eventually install 1-2 pedestrian bridges but when that'll happen I don't know.

the new intersections at S. Saunders and the interstate include pedestrian improvements for that section, don't think they extend all the way up to Renaissance Park though

when I lived off of New Bern Ave, I almost hit so many people that would just casually stroll across traffic at all hours of the day with no regard for cars flying by them at 45 mph

this is one of the main reasons i take wilmington st instead of south saunders

there is much less ambling across wilmington (except by the homeless shelter, but at least there is good visibility there)
