Am I the only one that thought of this when I heard he killed himself:

Quote :
"I heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life is harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor... I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains."

I was kinda sad about this for a second, but 63 is pretty old for Robin Williams. He did alright.

Rich 63 is middle class 53 or poor 43.

Depends on how you spend that rich. If you spend it all on hookers and coke, well, 63 is doing pretty well.

Plus, he killed himself so that bit of information about a "rich 63" seems less relevant.

I fail to see how some people in this thread are so emotionally invested in him that they feel sad enough for it to affect them...?

If he saved thousands of kids from starving to death, I am not aware. Did he? Or anything else to help humanity?

^^^his humor and entertainment went a long way to brighten the lives of many, even if for only a few moments at a time. i figure that warrants some mourning.

Quote :
"Williams and his former wife, Marsha, founded the Windfall Foundation, a philanthropic organization to raise money for many charities. Williams devoted much of his energy to charity work, including the Comic Relief fundraising efforts (the program is hosted by himself, Billy Crystal, and Whoopi Goldberg).[22] In December 1999, he sang in French on the BBC-inspired music video of international celebrities doing a cover of The Rolling Stones' "It's Only Rock & Roll" for the charity Children's Promise.[83]

In response to the 2010 Canterbury earthquake, Williams donated all proceeds of his "Weapons of Self Destruction" Christchurch performance to helping rebuild the New Zealand city. Half the proceeds were donated to the Red Cross and half to the mayoral building fund.[84] Williams has performed with the USO for U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.[85]

Williams also supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for several years"

I've been saddened to hear about many celebrity deaths, but this is one of the first ones that has really struck a chord with me. Not just in the case of who this person was but also the cause of death itself and the mental state that may have lead up to it. It's always hard to imagine that some of the most energetic and delightful people can seemingly be the most tormented inside.
