I love the old days when manufacturers only made one or two varieties of their products and did not resort to any gimmicks!

I have three of them - all original wide mouths. You can get a thing that clicks in and narrows the opening so it's easier to drink from. The wide mouth is better because it's much easier to fill with ice and easier to clean.

I keep one at the beach, one in my office, and one on my night side table. I highly recommend the glow in the dark model for drinking out of at night because it really does glow well and if you sleep in pitch black like me, it's really convenient to be able to see where it is on your table.

I have the green glow one, but they also make it in blue. The pictures of the blue look cool and I'm sure it glows just as well but I can't speak to that from experience.

I will say it is a bitch to put ice in the narrow mouth sometimes, and to be fair its not that hard to drink out of the wide mouth ones even without the insert.

Really doe, its just something to drink out of. You shouldn't need help making a decision because in the end it doesn't matter. You put liquid in it, and then you turn it upside down and then the liquid comes out and goes into your mouth. [/thread]

Those in particular sweat way more than my nalgene bottles, plus I can put a freakers on the nalgene. Pain in the ass to slide a freakers over the silicone.

I guess glass is the way to go. I don't know, I might still go for a Nalgene as I don't plan on putting any ethanol or saline in my bottle! (I read the actual study)

I came across glass bottles at Walmart last week, but it was not LifeFactory. The bottles were quite heavy, not to mention, expensive as well! What I like about the old school Nalgene bottles (see pic quagmire02 posted) is that since the loop at the top can be opened, I can loop it around the bottom of one of the shoulder straps on my backpack, as I don't have space inside my backpack. Can't do that with an un-open-able loop as on the LifeFactory bottles. If anybody knows glass bottles with a Nalgene-style carrying loop, please do post!

Anybody have experience with stainless steel bottles? I have a feeling they will impart a taste to the water. Any particular brands that are good? These are quite popular apparently, but again, I don't know about taste:

Read amazon reviews, and they are ok for the stainless steel ones, but bad for the aluminum ones. However, the negative reviews mostly have to do with the paint on the outside chipping off.

For stainless we use hydroflask and are happy with them other than the weight. They'll keep stuff hot or cold for a long damn time though so the trade-off is nice. I also have a Lifeline but so far I've only used it as a beer growler. Neither of them impart any kind of taste though and they're tough as hell. Mine are dented, scratched, etc. and still work great.

the "risk" associated with BPA or other xenoestrogens (leached from a water bottle) to an adult is minimal at best...should you microwave formula in and feed your baby from a plastic bottle that's made of copolyester or polycarbonate? personal choice, but i certainly wouldn't do it

BPA leaches out of the plastic most when in contact with acidic or hot liquid...so if you're only drinking water from your bottle, you REALLY have nothing to worry about...you're probably not going to put hot coffee in your plastic bottle, so unless you're drinking OJ or something, you're fine (actually, even if you're drinking OJ, you're fine)

i have a kleen kanteen (stainless) and it doesn't impart any taste...it DOES, however, get dents very easily and sweats more than my nalgenes

polyethylene (HDPE/LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) are about as "safe" as it's going to get

When I was in college, Nalgene bottles were a status symbol. Are they still that way? It would be much cheaper just to refill a Pepsi bottle a time or two and then get another one.

3^ what he said. Our baby bottles are glass (lifefactory ♥ ) and we don't reheat food in plastic. I use all sorts of plastic bottles, my double walled tervis water bottle is my favorite and would be my go to if it held more.
