feature for text convos?
This seems mind-bogglingly simple and something that could enhance my user experience immensely. I would trade that for Siri in a heartbeat

What bothers me more about it is how much storage it chews up over years of messages without a good way to backup the messages to a computer and still have them accessible. 9/10/2014 11:57:48 AM

I'd think that has more to do with photos and videos sent/received than the actual text
although I wouldn't be opposed to a feature that gave you the option of clearing out all media after a specified amount of time

Apple products are mostly awesome. The iPhone the exception. The only time I wish I had an iPhone is when someone tells me about some cool game or app they have, then I think about it and I don't really play phone games anyways...

^ that's all mostly true except for the clunkiness of Android, the slowness of Android phones, and the fact that I don't know a single Android user who has used NFC payments from their phone, or even know how to do so (due to the aforementioned clunkiness).
And IR blasters are the most gimmicky thing ever...

They are the worst, but the only way I know to clear them out is to delete the text log with the person who sent/received them. I run backups on the phone all the time, but that only does me good if mine is damaged/replaced and I need to restore it.
If I've got to find a quote I gave a friend through text 10 months after I sent it to verify something, then I'm shit out of luck. I have sense learned there are some third party software applications you can use to backup and search through archives, but it doesn't do me any good now.

I would agree with this. At this point I think Apple has stopped being the innovative force in the smart phone market and started playing follow the leader. There's not a lot to compel me to make the switch though. There's nothing out there thats significantly better which would need to be the case since I've got a library of apps and itunes purchases I've made over the years that wouldn't transfer to an android device 9/10/2014 1:44:57 PM

I've found that the search feature will find the quote, but to actually see the context of the quote, I have to scroll back manually. The data is there, the search is finding it, but the UI isn't linking directly there.
Maybe it's fixed in iOS 8... 9/10/2014 1:48:16 PM

i use IFTTT to save my text messages to a google spreadsheet so they are searchable (I'm assuming you can do the same on iOS) 9/10/2014 2:01:56 PM

^^I was under the impression that would only search back a specific amount of time (or texts?)
Because I have searched for terms that I know for a fact are there/exist but no relevant results are returned 9/10/2014 2:03:21 PM

^^^That may work if the text convo is still on the phone. The problem I've had is when I clear out my text convos after a backup to reduce my "other data" storage.
If its in backup, you can't access it without just fully restoring the phone to that backup, which will overwrite all of my current data.
It's especially infuriating because apple has a very good and easy to use backup system for its Macs. I can access any file at various states throughout the history of my computer backups. However my phone doesn't have that capability. 9/10/2014 2:08:38 PM
